PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Slippy Nippy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fire Ingram (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Slippy Nippy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Fire Ingram!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Daniel Franklin and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ingram looking to score a takedown here. Nippy is defending well but Ingram drives through and ends up in Nippy's guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Ingram is stalling in the full guard.
Ingram won't allow Nippy to sweep him here.
Ingram is looking to stand up but Nippy won't let him.

Nippy has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Ingram has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Nippy can't get the takedown.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Ingram pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Ingram defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Nippy.

Ingram gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Nippy to score an easy takedown into full guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Ingram looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Nippy has picked Ingram up and slammed him! Ingram can't keep hold of the triangle and Nippy manages to pass to side control!

Ingram taking punishment in the form of punches.
Ingram takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Nippy remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Nippy has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Nippy trying to control the action but Ingram is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ingram tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Ingram trying to remain calm as Nippy controls from the top position.
Ingram looking for a sweep but Nippy has passed into full mount! Oh no!

Nippy jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Ingram is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Ingram and Nippy has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Nippy stands up and beckons Ingram to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nice takedown defense from Nippy. No joy for Ingram on that attempt.

Ingram gets caught napping as Nippy dives in and scores a takedown. Ingram manages to retain guard.
Nippy sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Nippy has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Nippy passes into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ingram is in trouble now - Nippy has advanced to mount!
Nippy tries to control but Ingram wriggling away.
Ingram is looking to get to half guard.
Nippy lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Nippy controlling his opponent.
Nippy has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Ingram's face.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Slippy Nippy dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


A head kick from Ingram lands but Nippy takes it in his stride.
Slippy Nippy is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
No joy there for Nippy, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Ingram tries to clinch but Nippy moves away
and Nippy counters with a nice leg kick.
Nippy goes for a double leg but Ingram avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Ingram continues to drive forward.
Ingram prevents Nippy from breaking the clinch.
Nippy is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Nippy has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Ingram wants a takedown but no success here.
Nippy misses with a knee to the head.
Nippy stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Ingram prevents the takedown attempt.
Ingram gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Nippy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Slippy Nippy. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Ingram jumps guard but Nippy stands there with Ingram around his waist. Ingram gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Ingram stalls.

Nippy escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A head kick misses from Nippy.
Ingram tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Nippy paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Ingram fails with the takedown.

and Nippy counters with a good, hard body kick but Ingram shrugs it off.
Ingram misses with a shot to the body
and Nippy counters with a thumping low kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ingram stuffs the takedown attempt from Nippy. Nippy gets slowly back to his feet.
Nippy tries for a takedown but Ingram sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Nippy rushes Ingram and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Knees to the body from Ingram.
Ingram is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Nippy to keep the fight standing.
Ingram drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Nippy gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Ingram is breathing heavily.
Nippy just leaning against Ingram, taking a breather.

Nippy manages to break the clinch.
Nippy tries a head kick but it misses.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ingram changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Nippy tries to avoid it but Ingram manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Nippy to the ground. Nippy escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Nippy lands with a nice body kick.
Ingram fails with the takedown

and Nippy decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Ingram's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Ingram looking for subs off his back but Nippy has passed one foot through into half guard.

Nippy escapes and gets back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Nippy closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

You can see the frustration on Ingram's face as Nippy controls the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Slippy Nippy dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Nippy tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ingram sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Nippy somewhat.
Ingram bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Ingram shoots for a takedown but Nippy saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Slippy Nippy. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Horrible takedown by Ingram or perhaps it was just good defense by Nippy which made him look bad.
Ingram takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Nippy shoots in for a takedown but Ingram shows good takedown defense.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nippy throws a right hand that Ingram ducks under and follows up with a left that Ingram also avoids with ease.
Ingram throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Nippy stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Nippy tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Ingram manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Nippy shoots in for a takedown but Ingram shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Ingram fails with an attempt to clinch.
Nippy misses with a jab, cross combination.
Ingram tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Nippy paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Ingram throws a leg kick which misses Nippy's front leg but catches the back leg as Nippy tries to avoid it.
Ingram shoots in and drives through. Nippy sprawls well.

Ingram shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Nippy's guard.
Ingram must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Nippy wants to sweep here but Ingram controlling him for the moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ingram tries to free his leg and advance position but Nippy is retaining full guard.
Ingram trying to control the position from guard on top but Nippy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Nippy has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ingram can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Slippy Nippy overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Ingram is looking to advance position but Nippy has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nippy controlling the position easily from mount.
Ingram can't escape the position.
Ingram keeps trying to improve his position.
Nippy landing strikes from the mount and Ingram is in trouble!

Nippy working for a guillotine from mount but Ingram is in no mood to give up.
Nippy takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nippy raining down hammerfists from mount.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Nippy content just to control the position here.
Ingram reaches up to try and control the position but Nippy seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Ingram rolls and tries to escape and now Nippy has his back!

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Slippy Nippy.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Nippy, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
