Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Javier Ulrich!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lars Akesson!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, George Francis and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Akesson misses with a body kick.
Akesson stuffs the takedown attempt from Ulrich. Ulrich gets slowly back to his feet.
Ulrich has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Akesson finds it's way round the side to connect with Ulrich's head.
It looks like Javier Ulrich has been cut.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Ulrich is defended easily by Akesson.
Akesson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Akesson wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Javier Ulrich. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Akesson fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Akesson lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Ulrich circles away quickly and effectively.
Akesson pulls out of a head kick attempt.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Ulrich.
Ulrich closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Akesson quickly recovers to half guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Ulrich wants to control but Akesson is keeping him busy.
Akesson is defending against the submission attempts here by Ulrich.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Ulrich looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Akesson won't allow Ulrich to pass to mount.
Ulrich wants to lay and pray for a moment but Akesson keeps working.
Ulrich wants to work for an arm triangle but Akesson is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Ulrich seems to be looking for submissions.
Ulrich tries to pass the half guard into mount. Akesson knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Akesson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ulrich. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ulrich in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Akesson tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Ulrich!
