PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Yogg Saron (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marv Rourke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rourke is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by The Liars - Mr, you're on fire!. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yogg Saron!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Marv Rourke!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Cecil Peabody and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Saron shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Saron showed some decent athleticism there.
Rourke blocking the ground and pound attempt from Saron.
Saron has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Rourke won't allow Saron to pass to mount.
Rourke tries to kick Saron off but Saron keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Saron passes the guard and advances to mount!
Saron throws some wild stikes that Rourke manages to avoid easily.

Saron throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Rourke because Saron loaded up on that one.

Saron unloads with some shots from mount but Rourke bucks and avoids them well.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rourke can do anything to dispel that myth.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Saron is breathing heavily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Saron punching from mount but Rourke doing a good job of avoiding damage.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Saron cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Rourke wants to hold on but Saron pushes him away.
Rourke is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Saron is staying active.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Rourke is just holding on here. Saron manages to take his back.

Despite being in the dominant position, Marv Rourke just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Saron tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Saron shoots in for a takedown but Rourke shows good takedown defense.
Rourke is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Rourke looks to land a combination. Saron sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Rourke throws a head kick that misses.
Rourke misses with a double jab.
Rourke ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Saron moves into range and clinches up with Rourke.
Rourke tries to stall but Saron uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Rourke wants to break the clinch but can't.
Saron tries to land a knee to the head but Rourke blocks with his arms.

Rourke is trying to stall.
Rourke wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Saron manages to pull guard.
Saron is trying to keep Rourke in close.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Marv Rourke will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


A combination from Rourke does no damage.
Rourke throws a right and a left that Saron avoids nicely.
Rourke blocks a low kick nicely.
Rourke lands a nice looking body shot.

Saron moves into the clinch.
Saron looking for a takedown.

Saron escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Rourke with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Rourke misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Rourke lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Rourke tests Saron's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Rourke is looking to clinch but Saron is avoiding it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Saron shoots in but no luck this time.
A left lands for Rourke.

Saron looks for a takedown but Rourke sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Yogg Saron. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Saron counters with a left and a right that stings Rourke.
Rourke tries to close the distance and clinch but Saron swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Rourke keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Saron shoots in and drives through. Rourke sprawls well.
A jab from Rourke finds it's way through Saron's defenses.
Rourke throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Saron thows a body shot but no joy.
Rourke closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Rourke scores with a one two! Saron had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Rourke tries to clinch but Saron moves away

and Saron counters with a takedown into side control.
Saron trying to control the position but Rourke is working away.
Saron is putting a hurting on Rourke here, landing some big shots from side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Saron landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Rourke is looking to reverse the position.
Saron tries to advance to mount but can't.
Saron wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rourke keeps working.

Saron tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Saron has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Saron postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Rourke shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Saron counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Saron throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rourke's waist but Rourke gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Saron off to one side.
Saron throws a right hand that Rourke ducks under and follows up with a left that Rourke also avoids with ease.
Saron fails to land the takedown.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Rourke lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Rourke.
Saron avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Saron tries to clinch up.

Saron rushes Rourke and presses him up against the cage.
Saron fails to pull guard.
Saron can't break the clinch.
Rourke wants to break the clinch but can't.
Rourke wants to break free but Saron has control.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Saron.
Rourke has had enough of the clinch but Saron keeps him there for the moment.
Rourke is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

Saron tightens his grip and picks Rourke up, before dumping him to the ground. Rourke manages to land in guard.
Rourke keeping moving, preventing Saron from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Yogg Saron will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Saron shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Rourke is looking to stand back up but Saron counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Rourke.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Saron here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Rourke parries the strikes from Saron easily there. Saron is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Rourke to escape.
Rourke is trying to buck Saron off.

Saron has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Saron tries to close the distance and clinch but Rourke swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Saron thows a body shot but no joy.
Rourke keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Rourke connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

Saron closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Saron tries to stand and escape but Rourke is controlling the position.
Rourke tries to kick Saron off but Saron keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Saron seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rourke does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Rourke is trying to control but Saron passes into side control!
Saron wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rourke keeps working.

Saron decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Saron on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Rourke walks into a stiff left hand from Saron.
Saron tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rourke paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Saron blocks a leg kick.
Saron has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Rourke stuffs the takedown.
Rourke scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Saron walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Rourke is looking for a sweep.

Saron is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Rourke is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
