Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Graig Cook (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leonardo Machado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Leonardo Machado has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Graig Cook's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Graig Cook!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Leonardo Machado!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Edson Gomes and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Machado shoots in and gets a takedown into Cook's guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Cook is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Machado is stalling in the full guard.
Cook is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Machado wants to stand but Cook has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Cook looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Machado postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Cook is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Machado, into his guard.
Cook is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Graig Cook wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Machado gets a clinch.
Cook is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Machado pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Cook really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Machado breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Cook has taken the fight to the clinch.

Machado jumps into guard, dragging Cook to the mat.
Cook's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Machado is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Machado is working an open guard so Cook takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Machado shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Cook's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Cook looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Cook not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Cook is pulling down on Machado's head to control his posture.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Machado shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Cook manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Cook is trying to control but can't.
Cook is looking for a sweep. Machado is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Cook is staying active underneath Machado, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Machado wants to pass to mount but Cook is defending the position.
Cook trying to hold on to Machado's head to control him but Machado postures up.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Machado closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Cook did well to prevent Machado getting side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cook trying to control but Machado postures up.
Cook moves into full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cook striking off his back but it's not causing Machado any problems.
Cook is trying to keep Machado in close.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Machado closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Cook's guard.
Cook wants to sweep here but Machado controlling him for the moment.

Cook will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Machado postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Leonardo Machado.

Cook shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Machado wants to improve his position but Cook is controlling well.
Machado is breathing heavily.
Machado tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Machado is trying to get back to full guard.
Machado is trying to control but can't.

Cook is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Machado is just riding it out for now. Cook eventually gives up the hold.

Cook controlling the action here.
Machado wants to get back to full guard but Cook has passed into side control.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Machado manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Machado wants to pass the guard but Cook is defending well.
Cook makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Cook.
Cook is striking but Machado is not phased and passes to half guard.
Cook wants to improve his position but Machado is controlling well.

Machado wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cook keeps working.
Cook works his way to full guard. Good work.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Cook is on top in guard.
Cook is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Cook throws a big right hand that misses.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cook is stalling in the full guard.
Graig Cook overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Machado looking for subs off his back but Cook has passed one foot through into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Graig Cook dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

A head punch blocked on the inside by Machado.

Machado is trying to trip Cook. He has hold of a leg but Cook is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Machado persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Cook wants to sweep but no luck.
Cook tries to strike from the bottom.

Machado wants to pass the guard but Cook is keeping the position.

Cook manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Machado manages to get himself to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Machado takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Machado has a closed guard, preventing Cook from standing up.
Cook trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Cook decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Machado connects with an inside leg kick.

Cook takes a shot right to the bread basket.

Machado moves into the clinch.

Cook gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Machado regains guard.
Cook won't allow Machado to sweep him here.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Machado wants to get back to his feet but Cook is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Cook throws a big elbow that misses.
Cook showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

Cook lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Cook's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Machado pushes Cook off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Machado finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Cook lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Machado circles away quickly and effectively.
A combination from Cook does no damage.

Machado feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Cook is adopting a defensive guard.
Machado must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Cook looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Cook manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Cook lands with a right to the head.
Machado letting Cook take a breather here.
Cook fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Graig Cook.
I think Cook has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
