PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Miguel Rodriguez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Qing Fu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fu has chosen Last ride of the day as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Miguel Rodriguez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Qing Fu!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Colin Fray and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fu misses with a few strikes there.

Rodriguez bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Fu throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.

Rodriguez thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Fu is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Rodriguez off and has taken his back!
Fu somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back.
Fu tries to get the hooks in deep but Rodriguez pushed the leg off.
Rodriguez wants to escape the position.
Fu is trying to stick to Rodriguez's back but Rodriguez is turning into Fu. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Fu's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Rodriguez.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Rodriguez tries to free his leg and advance position but Fu is retaining full guard.
Fu is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Rodriguez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fu swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rodriguez is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Fu looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Rodriguez has picked Fu up and slammed him! Fu can't keep hold of the triangle and Rodriguez manages to pass to side control!

That's one minute gone in the round.

Rodriguez wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Fu, who protects the arm well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rodriguez tries for a kimura but Fu is defending well.

Rodriguez has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Fu is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Rodriguez yanks on the arm and Fu is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Rodriguez.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:43 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Miguel Rodriguez!
The defeated Qing Fu had this to say: 'I had a great-time , Regardless of the outcome ,I need to adjust some things, but I will be back.....Good-night'.
