Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wladimir Zaitzev! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Travis Stevens! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Stewart Dunkirk and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Zaitzev dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Zaitzev throws a right and a left that Stevens avoids nicely. Zaitzev wants to clinch and Stevens decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Zaitzev's guard. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Stevens thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Zaitzev is looking for a triangle but Stevens pushes his legs off easily.
Zaitzev knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Stevens on the ground. Stevens is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Stevens pushing down on Zaitzev's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Zaitzev tries to roll over but Stevens keeps him under control. Zaitzev is looking to escape. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Zaitzev is defending against the submission attempts here by Stevens.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Stevens stops Zaitzev from getting back to his feet.
Stevens is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Zaitzev sees it coming and defends easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Zaitzev wants to get back to his feet.
Stevens is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Zaitzev is just riding it out for now. Stevens eventually gives up the hold. Stevens blocks the strikes from Zaitzev.
Stevens wants to free his trapped foot but Zaitzev is holding on for dear life with his legs. Stevens in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Zaitzev tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Stevens!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Travis Stevens! A very excited looking Travis Stevens rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
