Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ken Mckenzie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jason Payne!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, John Kavanagh and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mckenzie enables Payne to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mckenzie manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Payne pushes down on Mckenzie's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Payne wants to stand but Mckenzie has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Payne trying to mount his opponent but Mckenzie defends it.

Payne wants to free his trapped foot but Mckenzie is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Payne seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jason Payne hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

and Mckenzie counters with a big head kick but Payne shrugs it off.

Payne throws a sloppy head kick and Mckenzie moves out of range easily.
Mckenzie defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Payne.

Mckenzie gets caught napping as Payne dives in and scores a takedown. Mckenzie manages to retain guard.

Payne is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Mckenzie is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Payne tries to stand but Mckenzie is controlling his head.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Mckenzie is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Mckenzie looks to land a combination. Payne sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Payne is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Payne wants to get back to his feet but Mckenzie is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Mckenzie knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Payne on the ground.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Payne fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Mckenzie is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Mckenzie jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Payne walks away with a smile on his face. Mckenzie gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Payne gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Mckenzie to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Mckenzie is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Payne is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Payne has escaped and now he's on top!
Mckenzie wants to stand up but Payne is controlling him.
Mckenzie avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Payne wants to control from the top but Mckenzie keeps moving.
Payne might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Mckenzie haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Mckenzie is striking off his back. Payne thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.
Payne is trying to control. Mckenzie wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Mckenzie is pressing down on Payne's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Mckenzie kicks Payne off and gets to his feet.

I would just about give that final round to Jason Payne.
Well Payne has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
