Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Roy Keane! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
21 - 12 - 0, fighting out of London, Tukka Hirvonen! The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Matti Vanhoillinen and Roosa Järviläinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! No luck for Keane with that takedown attempt. Keane shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Keane misses with a takedown attempt - Hirvonen sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Keane with a poor takedown and Hirvonen counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Roy Keane. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hirvonen lands with a shot to the body. Hirvonen fails to land with a series of punches.
Keane gets caught flat footed, as Hirvonen shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Hirvonen pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Keane is keeping the position for now. Keane has momentary wrist control but Hirvonen slips an elbow through the middle. Keane working for a triangle but Hirvonen defends it easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Keane had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hirvonen defends it easily. Hirvonen scoring with punches to the head and body. Hirvonen with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Hirvonen is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Keane looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hirvonen accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Hirvonen is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Hirvonen trying to control the position from guard on top but Keane is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Keane has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Hirvonen postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Keane is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Hirvonen has his hands clasped together but Keane extends and breaks Hirvonen's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Keane.
