Ward throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Anderson's waist but Anderson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ward off to one side. Anderson looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Anderson trying to stand up but can't free himself from Ward's guard.
Ward has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Anderson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Anderson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Ward wants to sweep but no luck. Anderson trying to stand up but can't free himself from Ward's guard. Ward looking to hit a scissor sweep but Anderson is one step ahead there. Anderson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ward. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Anderson has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Ward is proving hard to escape from.

Ward working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Anderson has passed into half guard!
Anderson escapes and gets back to his feet.
Anderson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Anderson lands in his opponent's guard. Anderson trying to stand up but can't free himself from Ward's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ward is looking for a triangle here but Anderson uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Anderson decides to take the fight back to the feet. Ward misses with a takedown
so Anderson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Abe Ward. That's going to take a lot out of him. Ward is breathing heavily. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage! Ward tries to land a sweep but no joy. Anderson is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Ward had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Anderson is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Ward Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Anderson's back instead.
Ward is persistently looking for the submission but Anderson is defending it well.

Ward looking for the choke from the back. Anderson is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Ward off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.
Ward seems to be going for a rear naked choke. He has an arm under Anderson's chin but Anderson turns very nicely into Ward's guard. Good BJJ skills being displayed there by Anderson.
Anderson wants to stand but Ward has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Ward is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Anderson frees his head nicely. Oh but Ward has switched to an armbar! Anderson is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
