Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 17 - 0, fighting out of New York, Eikichi Onizuka! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 28 - 0, fighting out of New York, Zhang Zhu! The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Anthony Taglia and Steve Montenegro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Onizuka gets a clinch. Zhu jumps guard.
Zhu manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Onizuka manages to get himself to full guard.
Onizuka is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Zhu pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Onizuka is keeping the position for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Zhu postures up.
Zhu won't allow Onizuka to sweep him here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Zhu drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Onizuka dives on top into guard. Onizuka in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Zhu controls Onizuka momentarily but Onizuka frees himself. Zhu had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Onizuka defends it easily. Onizuka throws a big elbow that misses. Zhu is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Zhu has momentary wrist control but Onizuka slips an elbow through the middle. Zhu looking for a guillotine here but Onizuka defends easily.
Onizuka lands a couple of decent looking shots. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Onizuka trying to control the position from guard on top but Zhu is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Onizuka scoring with some ground and pound. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Zhu avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Zhu has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Onizuka doesn't defend quickly enough and Zhu has managed to lock this one up! Can Onizuka escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Zhu on a fantastic submission victory.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Zhang Zhu!
