PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Britt Guzman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Henry Heins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Heins comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Eye of the Tiger kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Henry Heins has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Henry Heins!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Yves DeLean and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Heins takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Guzman closes the distance and clinches.

Guzman shoots for a takedown but Heins saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Guzman shoots in for a takedown but Heins shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Guzman tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Heins manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Heins with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Heins lands a nice hook to Guzman's body. Guzman takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Heins is looking to regain half guard here but Guzman keeps moving and retains side control.

Guzman remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Guzman's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Guzman has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Guzman decides to stand back up. Guzman steps back and let's Heins get back to his feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Heins shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Guzman defends it nicely.
Heins tries to close the distance and clinch up but Guzman swats him away and circles back towards the center.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Guzman's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Guzman tries to clinch up but Heins circles away and keeps his distance.
Guzman could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Heins is looking to clinch but Guzman is avoiding it.
Heins throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Guzman.
Guzman walks into a left hand.

Heins tries to keep at a distance but Guzman has taken the fight into the clinch.

Heins is fighting off a takedown attempt but Guzman is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Heins to the mat. Heins regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Guzman decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Heins throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Heins throws a head kick but Guzman moves out of range.

Guzman drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Heins pushes off an throws an elbow but Guzman leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

Heins wants to break the clinch but can't.
Heins is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Guzman is defending well.

Guzman manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Guzman is striking but Heins is not phased and passes to half guard.

Guzman escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Heins gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Guzman wants to sweep but no luck.
Heins tries to free his leg and advance position but Guzman is retaining full guard.
Guzman lands a couple of shots from the bottom.
Guzman manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Guzman cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Heins counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Guzman doesn't manage to clinch there - Heins circles away.
Heins doesn't succeed with the takedown

so Guzman counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Guzman loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Guzman gets to his feet. Heins looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Guzman darts in and clinches Heins up against the cage.
Guzman jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Heins walks away with a smile on his face. Guzman gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Heins shoots in for a double leg but Guzman sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Britt Guzman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Henry Heins.
Guzman moves forwards but Heins connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Guzman shoots for a takedown but Heins saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Guzman closes the distance and pushes Heins back into the cage.
Heins is looking to control Guzman's arms but Guzman gets an underhook and turns him. Now Heins has his back to the cage.

Guzman gets control of Heins's arms and successfully pulls guard. Guzman will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Guzman is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Heins presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Heins goes for a takedown in the clinch but Guzman prevents it.

Guzman decides to pull guard.
Heins really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Guzman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Guzman manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Heins manages to get himself to full guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Heins takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Britt Guzman is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Heins ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Guzman, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
