Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
17 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Roy Keane! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
18 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Juho Pennanen! The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Arvi Lind.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Keane avoids a punch combination nicely.
Keane shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Pennanen is trying to defend but Keane finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Keane is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Pennanen still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Pennanen has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work! Pennanen throws a strike aimed at the side of Keane's head but Keane avoids it well. Keane is looking to regain half guard here but Pennanen keeps moving and retains side control. Keane manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Keane is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Keane has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Keane seems to be looking for submissions.
Pennanen keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. Keane seems to be working for a kimura but Pennanen defends the submission attempt. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Keane is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Pennanen has managed to free his arm - good work. Pennanen desperately trying to maintain half guard. Keane seems to be looking for submissions.
Keane looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Keane is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Pennanen defends it well. Keane has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Pennanen defend it? Keane steps over the head and cranks it - Pennanen is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Keane!
