Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Raphael Melendez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jake Shooter! The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Tarja Halkonen and Marco Blurström.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Melendez throws a head kick but Shooter moves out of range.
Shooter changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Melendez looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Shooter tries to advance to mount but Melendez denies him. Shooter trying to control the action but Melendez is working from the bottom. Melendez can't do much from the bottom here. Shooter gets to mount! Melendez was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly. Shooter controlling from the full mount. Melendez can't escape the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shooter can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Melendez is looking to escape. Shooter lands a big shot there that rocks Melendez but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Shooter content just to control the position here. Melendez keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Melendez tries to lock up and control but Shooter gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Shooter content just to control the position here. Melendez is looking to get to half guard. That's three minutes gone in the round. Shooter controlling his opponent. Shooter trying to control but he's not successful this time. Melendez tries to hold on but Shooter postures up. Shooter won't let Melendez get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now. Shooter wants to control the pace but Melendez is squirming around nicely. Melendez is trying to stand. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Melendez tries to hold on but Shooter postures up. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Melendez can't escape the position.
Shooter looking to control but Melendez is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Shooter controlling the position easily from mount. Melendez is working to get back to half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Melendez manages to regain half guard. Good work. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jake Shooter dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Shooter has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Melendez is trying to keep an underhook but Shooter manages to get the takedown into half guard. Jake Shooter has got the better of the ground game so far. Melendez gets back to full guard.
Shooter stays in close to Melendez's body and controls the position. Shooter must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Shooter's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Shooter trying to control but Melendez is working from the bottom. The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Shooter. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man. Shooter is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jake Shooter. Melendez rushes Shooter and presses him up against the cage. Shooter is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Melendez can't fight it off and eventually Shooter manages to take the fight to the floor. Melendez looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Shooter is breathing heavily. Shooter passes into half guard. Shooter is controlling the pace.
Melendez is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Melendez is trying to control but can't.
Shooter with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Shooter blocks the strikes from Melendez.
Melendez tries to roll over but Shooter keeps him under control. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Melendez misses with a head kick.
Shooter fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Melendez to the ground. Shooter is now in Melendez's guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Shooter wants to control from the top but Melendez keeps moving.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Melendez is pulling down on Shooter's head. It's preventing any offense from Shooter, at least for the moment. Shooter trying to control the position from guard on top but Melendez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Jake Shooter has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Melendez clinches with his opponent.
Shooter breaks from the clinch.
Shooter dives in and scores a takedown into Melendez's guard. Melendez keeping moving, preventing Shooter from controlling successfully.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Melendez is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Melendez looking to control.
Melendez wants to stand and escape but Shooter is having none of it. Melendez tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Melendez closes the distance and clinches up with Shooter, looking for a takedown. Melendez pushes Shooter against the cage but Shooter circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Shooter feints and as Melendez raises his hands in defense, Shooter changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Melendez pulls Shooter in to control the position. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Melendez looking for a sweep. Not yet Melendez, not yet. Shooter trying to control the position from guard on top but Melendez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jake Shooter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jake Shooter hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Melendez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Shooter sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Melendez somewhat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shooter leaves Melendez with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Melendez tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Shooter feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Melendez wants to stand and escape but Shooter is having none of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shooter slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Melendez is looking for a triangle but Shooter pushes his legs off easily.
Shooter stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Melendez swivels though and keeps the full guard. Melendez tries to land a sweep but no joy. Shooter advances to half guard. Shooter keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Melendez tries to get to full guard but Shooter has control of the leg.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shooter trying to control the pace. Melendez is trying to maintain the position but Shooter is very close to passing his half guard. Melendez is looking for a sweep. Shooter is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Shooter perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jake Shooter wasn't active enough on the ground. Shooter rushes Melendez and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Shooter has Melendez pushed against the cage. Shooter gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Melendez regains guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shooter engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Melendez keeping full guard, as Shooter tries to pass. Shooter is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Melendez looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Raphael Melendez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Jake Shooter is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Melendez looking for a guillotine here but Shooter defends easily.
And that's the end of the fight! Jake Shooter comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Shooter has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
