PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mohammad Al Nasser (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carl Draiman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carl Draiman told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 21 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mohammad Al Nasser!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Carl Draiman!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Paul Tew and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Al Nasser with a poor takedown

and Draiman counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Draiman wants to stand but Al Nasser is controlling his posture from full guard.

Al Nasser is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Draiman is aware though and is defending well.
Draiman wanted to stand there but Al Nasser had control of the position.
Al Nasser is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Draiman wants to stand and escape but instead Al Nasser has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Draiman holds on and takes a little breather.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Draiman wants to sweep here but Al Nasser controlling him for the moment.

Al Nasser wants to pass the guard but Draiman is keeping the position.
Al Nasser loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Draiman not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Draiman throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Carl Draiman wasn't active enough on the ground.
Draiman misses with a body shot.
Al Nasser throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Draiman's waist but Draiman gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Al Nasser off to one side.

Al Nasser is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Al Nasser fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Draiman checks it well.

Draiman clinches up with Al Nasser and pushes him back against the cage.

Al Nasser escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Draiman fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Al Nasser is out of range.
Draiman tries to clinch but Al Nasser moves out of range.
Al Nasser fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mohammad Al Nasser. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Draiman counters with a shoot takedown. Al Nasser fights it but they end up in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Draiman tries to stand but Al Nasser is controlling from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Draiman stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Al Nasser decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Draiman trying to hold on to Al Nasser's head to control him but Al Nasser postures up.
Draiman gets back to full guard.

Al Nasser won't allow Draiman to sweep him here.
Draiman doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Draiman looking to hit a scissor sweep but Al Nasser is one step ahead there.
Al Nasser trying to control the position from guard on top but Draiman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Draiman is on top in guard.

Al Nasser manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Al Nasser mounts Draiman! Really nice guard pass there!
Draiman is trying to escape the mount.

Al Nasser goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Draiman is on top in guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Draiman wants to get up but he can't break Al Nasser's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carl Draiman dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Al Nasser takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Al Nasser shoots and misses

and Draiman counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Draiman.
Draiman has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Al Nasser is proving hard to escape from.
Draiman is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Al Nasser is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Draiman wants to get up but he can't break Al Nasser's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Draiman has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Al Nasser is proving hard to escape from.

Al Nasser working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Draiman doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Draiman manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Al Nasser controls Draiman momentarily but Draiman frees himself.

Draiman must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Draiman is breathing heavily.

Al Nasser is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Draiman defends well.
Draiman wanted to stand there but Al Nasser had control of the position.

Al Nasser has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Draiman can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Al Nasser pushes a forearm under Draiman's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Draiman is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
