Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alex Mavridis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sergey Dubov! The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Igor Prikhodko and Fedor Mirinova.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mavridis lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Dubov throws a hook but Mavridis avoids it easily. Dubov goes for a double leg but Mavridis avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Mavridis continues to drive forward. Mavridis slowing the pace effectively. Mavridis drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Mavridis creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Dubov's defenses. Mavridis stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body. Mavridis escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Mavridis tries to close the distance and clinch up but Dubov swats him away and circles back towards the center. Mavridis chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Dubov keeps the fight on the outside.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mavridis gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Dubov is defending well against a takedown attempt. Dubov can't get the takedown.
Dubov is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Mavridis is defending well. Alex Mavridis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sergey Dubov. Dubov is pressed up against the cage. Mavridis has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Dubov down to the mat. Dubov avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Mavridis gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Dubov to score an easy takedown into full guard. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Dubov pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mavridis is keeping the position for now. Mavridis has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Dubov can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Mavridis knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Dubov on the ground. Dubov sitting in guard here, content to control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Dubov looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Dubov forces his way into half guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Mavridis wants to get back to his feet. Dubov maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Mavridis could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Dubov has cracked it and Mavridis is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Dubov!
