Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mark Maynard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Draco Gulliver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mark Maynard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Draco Gulliver!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, William Peck and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gulliver closes this distance looking for a takedown but Maynard circles away.
Maynard paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Gulliver tries to clinch but Maynard moves out of range.
Maynard misses with a few strikes there.

Maynard moves into the clinch.

Maynard successfully pulls guard.

Maynard is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Gulliver presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Maynard drags the fight down to the ground.

Maynard is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Maynard looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gulliver is one step ahead there.
Gulliver postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Maynard keeping full guard, as Gulliver tries to pass.
Maynard looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Maynard is on top in guard.
Maynard wants to control from the top but Gulliver keeps moving.
Maynard not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Gulliver preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Gulliver escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Maynard gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Gulliver looking for a sweep. Not yet Gulliver, not yet.
Maynard wants to control from the top but Gulliver keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Gulliver is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Maynard is aware though and is defending well.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gulliver can do anything to dispel that myth.
Gulliver preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Gulliver keeping full guard, as Maynard tries to pass.
Gulliver looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Maynard slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Maynard works over Gulliver with some ground and pound from guard.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Gulliver is trying to control the position but Maynard postures up.
Maynard postures up in Gulliver's guard and throws a big left but Gulliver blocks it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Maynard stands and throws Gulliver's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Maynard is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Gulliver is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Gulliver sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gulliver wants to improve his position but Maynard is controlling well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gulliver blocking the ground and pound attempt from Maynard.
Maynard lands with a punch from half guard.
Maynard wants to pass the guard but Gulliver is defending well.
Maynard winds up and cracks Gulliver with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Maynard decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Gulliver tries to clinch up

and Maynard counters with a combination of strikes to the head and body that crumple Gulliver!


Gulliver is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Maynard lands strikes from half guard.
Gulliver is still in real trouble! Can Maynard finish him?
Maynard seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Gulliver does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Gulliver is in trouble now - Maynard has advanced to mount!

Maynard looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Maynard has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Gulliver's face.
Maynard lands a big elbow - Gulliver is in trouble! More strikes from the mount and Gulliver is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Mark Maynard!
