Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Verse Jin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gregor Erikson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Verse Jin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Gregor Erikson!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Dirk Anderson and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Jin with that takedown attempt.
Erikson shoots for a double leg takedown but Jin sprawls well. He's pushed Erikson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Erikson tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Erikson shoots in but no luck this time.

Jin forces Erikson back against the cage and clinches.
Erikson has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Jin is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Verse Jin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gregor Erikson.

Jin uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Gregor Erikson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
No luck for Erikson with that takedown attempt.

Erikson tries to clinch up but Jin circles away and keeps his distance.

Erikson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jin tries to avoid it but Erikson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jin to the ground. Jin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Erikson moves in looking to clinch but Jin pushes him off.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Erikson is defended easily by Jin.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Jin shoots in looking for a takedown but Erikson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Jin's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Erikson is trying to push Jin away but Jin has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Erikson is pressed up against the cage. Jin has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Erikson down to the mat. Erikson avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Erikson misses with a few strikes there.

Jin closes the distance and clinches.

Jin pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Erikson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Jin pinned against the cage. Jin gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Jin doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Erikson.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jin is defended easily by Erikson.

Jin shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Erikson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jin tries to avoid it but Erikson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jin to the ground. Jin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Erikson has worked on his takedown defense in the runup to this fight and it is paying off so far.

Jin forces Erikson back against the cage and clinches.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jin tries to score a body lock takedown but Erikson shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Erikson shoots in for a takedown but Jin shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Verse Jin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Erikson has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Jin.
Erikson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jin's waist but Jin gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Erikson off to one side.

Jin shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Erikson but Erikson pushes him off and we're back to square one.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Erikson tries to stand but Jin is controlling from the bottom.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Erikson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Jin knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Erikson on the ground.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jin is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Gregor Erikson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Jin looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Erikson is fending him off so far but Jin persists. Nope, Erikson circles away and we're back to standing.

Jin has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Erikson uses from the top position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Erikson wants to stand but Jin has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Erikson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jin swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Jin wants to sweep but no luck.

Erikson drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Jin manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Erikson has Jin in his guard.

Erikson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Erikson pushes Jin away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Jin gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Jin tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Jin has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Erikson pushes Jin away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Jin gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Jin decides to stand back up.
Erikson walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Erikson lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Erikson shoots in but Jin avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Jin avoids a punch combination nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jin lands a two punch combo.
Erikson tries to clinch but Jin moves away
and Jin counters with a leg kick.
Erikson shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Jin misses with a takedown attempt - Erikson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
The fight stays on the outside here - Jin looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Erikson dives in for a single leg takedown but Jin sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Erikson is trying to force a seperation but Jin has the dominant position.

Jin's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Verse Jin.
I think Jin has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
