Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
18 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tony Goldman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Leonardo Lion! The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Phil Schofield and Daniel Bishop.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lion looks to score with a jab to the body but Goldman is just out of range. Goldman is trying hard to land a takedown here. Lion sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Lion misses with a leg kick. Lion throws a leg kick but Goldman sees it coming and checks it nicely. We've been hearing reports that Goldman has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Goldman shoots in for a takedown but Lion shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Lion misses with an uppercut. Lion tries to land a front kick but Goldman steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Goldman misses with a takedown attempt - Lion sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tony Goldman. That's going to take a lot out of him. Lion lands with an overhand left. Goldman moves in looking to clinch but Lion pushes him off. Lion throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Goldman shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Lion but Lion pushes him off and we're back to square one. Goldman shoots in for a takedown but Lion shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Goldman avoids the body shot from Lion.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lion connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Lion misses with a hook. Goldman ducked under it nicely. Lion throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Leonardo Lion is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Nice cross by Lion. Goldman shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Lion is controlling Goldman's trapped leg to prevent Goldman from advancing to side control. Goldman is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Goldman controlling his opponent. Lion felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lion is desperately trying to improve his position but Goldman has a good base and remains in mount. Lion is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Lion is squirming around, avoiding Goldman's attempts to control the action. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Goldman is really struggling to control Lion but he's trying to hold on to the position. Lion is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Goldman misses with a head shot. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Goldman looking to control and managing it successfully. Goldman looking to control but Lion is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Goldman thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Goldman lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Goldman connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Goldman misses with a head shot. Goldman content just to control the position here. Lion tries to lock up and control but Goldman gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Lion is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Lion is squirming around, avoiding Goldman's attempts to control the action. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Goldman throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Lion because Goldman loaded up on that one. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Tony Goldman dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Lion fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Goldman checks it well. Goldman tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Goldman looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lion is fending him off so far but Goldman persists. Nope, Lion circles away and we're back to standing. Goldman shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Lion defends it nicely. Goldman wants to clinch. Lion scores with a jab to the head.
Goldman takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Lion thows a body shot but no joy. Goldman fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Lion avoids it really well and circles away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tony Goldman. That's going to take a lot out of him. Goldman moves out of range of the body kick from Lion.
That's one minute gone in the round. Goldman moves into the clinch. Goldman fails to pull guard.
Goldman tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Lion has a couple of punches blocked by Goldman.
Goldman tries to score a body lock takedown but Lion shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Goldman is trying to pull guard but Lion has him pressed against the cage. Lion breaks from the clinch.
Goldman gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Goldman shoots for a double leg takedown but Lion sprawls well. He's pushed Goldman's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Lion wants to slow Goldman down by chopping away at his legs. Lion connects with a jab. Lion lands with a nice body punch. Goldman with a poor takedown and Lion counters with a shoot takedown. Goldman fights it but they end up in guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Lion throws an elbow that misses. Goldman uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Lion's guard. Nice move by Goldman!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Goldman looking to sit in guard and control but Lion gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Lion really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Goldman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Goldman utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Lion looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Goldman controls Lion momentarily but Lion frees himself. Lion wants to control from the top but Goldman keeps moving.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Goldman wants to sweep here but Lion controlling him for the moment. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lion accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Lion postures up and lands a big shot to Goldman's brow. Lion looking to sit in guard and control but Goldman gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Goldman throws a big right hand that misses. Goldman is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Lion is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Goldman stays in close to Lion's body and controls the position. Lion working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Goldman. Goldman wants to control from the top but Lion keeps moving. Goldman is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Lion is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Tony Goldman just wasn't active enough. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Goldman is defended easily by Lion. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Goldman tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lion swats him away and circles back towards the center. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Leonardo Lion showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!
Lion throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Goldman blocks a low kick nicely. Lion stuffs the takedown. Lion jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Lion swings away with a leg kick that misses. Goldman has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Lion. Goldman shoots in for a takedown but Lion shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Lion misses with a kick to the body.
Nice defenses there by Goldman. Goldman darts in and clinches Lion up against the cage. Goldman is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Lion gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tony Goldman. That's going to take a lot out of him. Goldman wants a takedown but no success here.
Lion tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Lion lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage. Goldman fails to pull guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lion has a couple of punches blocked by Goldman.
Goldman gets a nice trip takedown into half guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Goldman working the head and body with strikes. Goldman is looking to take a break and control but Lion is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Lion is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Lion controlling the position well. Goldman takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Goldman throwing shots but Lion is blocking nicely. Goldman trying to control from half guard but Lion is working away. Goldman controlling the action here. Goldman throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Lion wants to improve his position but Goldman is controlling well.
Lion is refusing to be controlled, as Goldman sits in half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
We're going to have a standup here because Tony Goldman wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Goldman throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Lion's waist but Lion gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Goldman off to one side. Goldman shoots for a double leg takedown but Lion sprawls well. He's pushed Goldman's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Goldman moves out of range of the body kick from Lion.
Goldman fails with the takedown. Goldman on the wrong end of a nice jab. Goldman uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Lion.
A chopping leg kick lands by Lion. Goldman takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Lion throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Goldman takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Goldman is rocked! Lion rushes Goldman and presses him up against the cage. Oh Goldman is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Goldman drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Goldman is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Lion to keep the fight standing. Goldman jumps guard and drags Lion to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Goldman seems to have got his legs back now. Lion trying to control the position from guard on top but Goldman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Goldman looking for a sweep. Not yet Goldman, not yet. Lion trying to control the position from guard on top but Goldman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Lion working some strikes from top position. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Lion throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Goldman has Lion pulled in close to control his posture. Lion controlling from the top position.
And that's the end of the fight! Leonardo Lion comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Lion has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
