Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Steve Hess! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Roman Ship! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Fedor Mirinova and Ivan Kurochkin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hess gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Ship trying to stand up but can't free himself from Hess's guard. Hess looking for a guillotine here but Ship defends easily.
Ship wants to pass the guard but Hess is keeping the position. Ship thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Ship is looking to stand up but Hess won't let him. Hess can't keep his opponent in guard - Ship advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Ship stalling.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hess is defending against the submission attempts here by Ship.
Ship is trying to work for a kimura but Hess is defending well.
Ship is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Hess might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Ship is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Hess has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Ship escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Ship! The referee asks Ship politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Ship prefers to stall for the moment though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ship wants to stand but Hess is controlling his arm. Ship is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Hess looks calm but he's in trouble here. Ship gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Hess is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Ship lets go of the hold and Hess can pop his arm back in it's socket.
