Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Oba Ewuare (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricardo Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mendes clinches up with Ewuare and pushes him back against the cage.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Ewuare is looking for a triangle but Mendes pushes his legs off easily.

It looks like Mendes might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Mendes wants to stand up but Ewuare has a hold of him and won't allow it.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ricardo Mendes was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Ewuare shoots in for a takedown but Mendes shows good takedown defense.

Mendes closes the distance and pushes Ewuare back into the cage.
Ewuare is working for takedown but Mendes is calmly controlling the position for now.

Mendes pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Mendes throws a combination. Ewuare tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mendes enables Ewuare to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mendes manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Ewuare is looking to advance position but Mendes has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Mendes lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

You can see the frustration on Ewuare's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Mendes just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Mendes has the hooks in. Ewuare is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Mendes throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Ewuare tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Mendes is in Ewuare's guard.
Mendes not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Ewuare has his foot on Mendes's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mendes works his way back into a safe position though.

Mendes is working for a rear naked choke. Ewuare is not defending it well and Mendes has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Ewuare refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Ewuare's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!
