Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Andres Santiago! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jake Smith! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Emerson Jorge and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smith clinches up with Santiago and pushes him back against the cage. Smith fails to pull guard.
Smith is trying to pull guard but Santiago turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Smith is looking for a takedown. Andres Santiago has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Smith. Santiago tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Smith just stands there and leans against the cage. Smith drags the fight down to the ground.
Santiago trying to control but Smith is working from the bottom. Santiago throws an elbow that misses. Smith uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Santiago's guard. "I don't think so" says Smith as he avoids it easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith misses with a takedown and Santiago counters with a three punch combo that has Smith backing up. Smith nods at Santiago to acknowledge the strikes. Santiago gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Smith counters with a big head kick but Santiago shrugs it off. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Santiago fails with a takedown attempt. Santiago is breathing heavily. Santiago shoots for a takedown but Smith saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Santiago misses with a takedown and Smith makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. Smith fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Smith rushes Santiago and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Smith ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Smith no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Smith has his feet on Santiago's thighs here. He's pushed Santiago off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Santiago screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
