PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Rick Mcintosh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricardo Rodriguez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rick Mcintosh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Ricardo Rodriguez!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Stewart Dunkirk and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mcintosh fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Mcintosh gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Rodriguez to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Rodriguez keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Mcintosh's head.
Mcintosh is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Mcintosh escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Rodriguez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Rodriguez has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Let's hope that Rodriguez has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Mcintosh tries to kick Rodriguez off but Rodriguez keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Rodriguez has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Rodriguez takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Rodriguez is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Rodriguez tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Rodriguez fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ricardo Rodriguez dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Mcintosh tries for a takedown but Rodriguez sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mcintosh enables Rodriguez to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mcintosh manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rodriguez thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Rodriguez. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Mcintosh is bucking up trying to escape but Rodriguez cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Mcintosh tries to lock up and control but Rodriguez gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Mcintosh tries to reverse the position but Rodriguez maintains control.
Rodriguez lands a couple of good shots and Mcintosh has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Rodriguez really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Mcintosh.

Rodriguez is landing with strikes. Mcintosh can't take much more of this.
Mcintosh tries to escape but Rodriguez has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rodriguez just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Mcintosh knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rodriguez on the ground.

Rodriguez is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Mcintosh won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Rodriguez off his unconscious opponent!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Ricardo Rodriguez!
