PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yuri Solovynov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Green (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Green's choice of entrance music: Raining Blood. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Yuri Solovynov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matt Green!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Paul Tew and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Green displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Solovynov throws out the jab.
Green swings for the body but Solovynov moves out of range.
Solovynov tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Solovynov tries to land a front kick but Green steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
We've been told by Solovynov's head coaches at Supremacy MMA Academy and Gym (12 ELITE Coaches) that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Solovynov closes the distance and clinches.
Solovynov throws an elbow that misses.
With the fighters up against the cage, Solovynov throws an elbow but misses.
Solovynov goes for a takedown attempt but Green pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Solovynov fails with an attempt to clinch.
Solovynov moves out of range of the strikes.
Solovynov looks to land a left hand but Green moved out of range nicely.
Green thows a body shot but no joy.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Green ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Solovynov shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Green counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Green.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Green's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Green passes into half guard.
Green sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Solovynov defending well though.
Green missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Solovynov avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Green.

Green is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Solovynov is just riding it out for now. Green eventually gives up the hold.
Green tries to pass the half guard into mount. Solovynov knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Green is working for a submission of some sort.
Green moves into full mount! Solovynov won't be happy about that!

Green jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Solovynov manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Green in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Solovynov is not content to let Green control the position.
Solovynov parries the strikes from Green easily there. Green is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Solovynov to escape.
Solovynov pushes Green away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Green gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Solovynov is looking to reverse the position.
Green tries to move into full mount but can't pass Solovynov's legs.
Green has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Green wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Solovynov, who protects the arm well.
Green working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Green looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Solovynov is avoiding damage well.
Green misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

Green is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Solovynov knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Green is trying to get an arm triangle but Solovynov is defending well.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Green working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Green dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Solovynov misses with a takedown

and Green counters with a nice double leg into side control. Solovynov won't be happy with that.
Green is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Solovynov will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Green has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Green jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Solovynov is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Solovynov and Green has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Green wants to control but Solovynov is keeping him busy.

Green wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Solovynov, who protects the arm well.
Matt Green has got the better of the ground game so far.

Green working the ground and pound but Solovynov is defending the strikes.
Solovynov is looking for a sweep.
Green taking a breather here.
Green tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Green throwing shots but missing, from side control.

Green is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Solovynov knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Green tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Green has hold of Solovynov's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Solovynov tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Green cranks the arm and Solovynov screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Solovynov, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Matt Green!
An intense looking Matt Green took to the microphone post fight and gave a little speech: 'Another big tournament win for The Gravy Raven! Yeah man, just training hard and getting better every day at Nights Watch MMA Academy. Just gotta keep taking my vitamins, saying my prayers and drinking my gravy!'.
