Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jack Adam! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Deatrice Hughes! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Mauricio Rocha and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Adam throws a sloppy head kick and Hughes moves out of range easily. Adam closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hughes circles away. Hughes manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Adam on his heels. He'll look to pass Adam's guard now, I'm sure. Adam is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Hughes pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Adam is keeping the position for now. Adam manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hughes manages to get himself to full guard.
Adam is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Hughes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Adam. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Hughes is trying to keep Adam in close.
That's one minute gone in the round. Adam is looking to work some ground and pound but Hughes has wrist control. Adam slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Hughes is looking for a sweep. Hughes is striking off his back. Adam thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard. Hughes is looking to control Adam's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Hughes avoid being mounted? Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Adam in particular looking to stall.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hughes is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Adam connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Adam controls the action. Adam seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Hughes for as long as he can get away with.

Jack Adam has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Hughes shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Adam as he avoids it easily. Jack Adam has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Deatrice Hughes. Adam shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Hughes counters with a nice leg kick. Jack Adam is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Adam shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hughes but Hughes pushes him off and we're back to square one. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Hughes tries to clinch but Adam moves away and Adam counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Hughes jabbing away but nothing is landing. Hughes circles away from the clinch attempt.
Adam is looking to clinch. Hughes tries to close the distance and clinch up but Adam swats him away and circles back towards the center. Hughes pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Adam misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Hughes stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Hughes wants it to stay on the feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jack Adam. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hughes tries to clinch but Adam moves out of range. Hughes shoots in and bounces Adam off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Adam tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target. Adam gets caught flat footed, as Hughes shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Hughes looking to pass the guard. Adam looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Hughes trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Adam looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Hughes wants to pass the guard but Adam is keeping the position. Adam is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hughes defends well. Hughes must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Hughes wants to control from the top but Adam keeps moving. Adam pushes Hughes off and gets back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. No luck with that takedown attempt from Adam. Adam fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Hughes fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Adam closes the distance and clinches. Adam drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Deatrice Hughes. Well Adam has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
