Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Smeder Balovich! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rolando Dimagiba! The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Konstantin Menshow and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Balovich stuffs the takedown attempt from Dimagiba. Dimagiba gets slowly back to his feet. Dimagiba slips a straight right by Balovich. Balovich tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Dimagiba was well out of range. Poor timing from Balovich. Balovich stuffs the takedown. A jab from Balovich does it's job there. Smeder Balovich seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Dimagiba looks for a takedown but Balovich sprawls well. Smeder Balovich has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rolando Dimagiba. A left lands for Balovich. Balovich showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Dimagiba.
Balovich drops Dimagiba with a left right combo! Balovich follows him down to the ground into side control.
Dimagiba is rocked! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Balovich thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Dimagiba is still in real trouble! Can Balovich finish him? Dimagiba manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Dimagiba wants to get back to full guard. Dimagiba seems to have recovered his senses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dimagiba slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Dimagiba is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Balovich is in close to Dimagiba's body, working some short punches and elbows. Dimagiba is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Balovich trying to control the position from guard on top but Dimagiba is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Balovich with a nice head shot there. Dimagiba looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Balovich's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Balovich passes Dimagiba's right leg, so he's now in half guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Dimagiba is trying to maintain the position but Balovich is very close to passing his half guard. Balovich landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Balovich slows the pace down in half guard. We've been hearing good reports from Balovich's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Balovich slips a nice elbow through Dimagiba's hands, connecting with Dimagiba's forehead. Balovich seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Dimagiba does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Dimagiba looking for submissions off his back. Ground and pound from Balovich. Dimagiba is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Dimagiba is refusing to be controlled, as Balovich sits in half guard. Balovich seems to be working for a kimura but Dimagiba defends the submission attempt. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dimagiba gets back to full guard.
Dimagiba is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Balovich might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Balovich wants to control from the top but Dimagiba keeps moving. Balovich is sitting in close to Dimagiba's body. Dimagiba has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Balovich is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Balovich is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Dimagiba.
