Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Prince Merritt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Akamu Kai! The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Paul Gruel and Ryoma Takatsuka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kai looking to score a takedown here. Merritt is defending well but Kai drives through and ends up in Merritt's guard. Kai stands and throws Merritt's legs to the side, diving into side control. Kai working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Kai tries to move into full mount but can't pass Merritt's legs. Merritt gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Merritt prevents Kai from taking his back. Kai blocks Merritt's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kai is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Merritt to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Merritt shrugs it off. Kai is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Merritt is surviving well by controlling Kai's body position as best he can. Kai seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Merritt is holding on tight.

Kai is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Merritt sees it coming and defends easily. Kai is looking for a kimura but Merritt is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kai to get the leverage. Kai works a leg free and moves into half guard. Kai is looking for a kimura but Merritt is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kai to get the leverage. Akamu Kai showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!
