Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Epic Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ben Marbury (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ben Marbury struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 156.1lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Epic Penn! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ben Marbury! The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Winston Alpacca and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Marbury closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Penn did well to prevent Marbury getting side control. Marbury looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Penn controlling the leg, holding on to half guard. Penn tries to kick Marbury off but Marbury keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Penn is defending against the submission attempts here by Marbury.
Penn wants to improve his position but Marbury is controlling well.
Marbury is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Penn is just riding it out for now. Marbury eventually gives up the hold. Marbury thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Penn's head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Marbury moves into full mount! Penn won't be happy about that! Marbury is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Penn is surviving well by controlling Marbury's body position as best he can. Marbury landing shots from mount. Penn is looking to improve his position but Marbury isn't that keen on the idea.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Marbury looking to control but Penn is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Penn bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Penn postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Marbury escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Penn gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Penn is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Penn works a leg free and moves into half guard. Penn definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Penn is keen to just control but Marbury is a slippery customer. Penn is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Marbury doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Penn. Penn missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ben Marbury dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Penn rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Marbury moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Penn shoots in and bounces Marbury off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Marbury working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Penn doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Penn manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Marbury looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Our spies down at at Cozad The Island inform us that Marbury has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off? Penn wants to control from the top but Marbury keeps moving. Penn avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Penn stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Marbury swivels though and keeps the full guard. Penn wants to control from the top but Marbury keeps moving. Penn throwing strikes but missing. Penn is looking to work some ground and pound but Marbury has wrist control.
We're going to have a standup here because Epic Penn wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Penn shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Marbury manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Penn wants to control from the top but Marbury keeps moving. Penn lands a couple of digs. Marbury is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Penn defends well. Penn trying to control the position from guard on top but Marbury is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Penn loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Epic Penn wasn't doing enough on the ground. Penn decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Marbury actively working from the bottom here. Penn is working for a submission of some sort.

Epic Penn dominated that second round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Marbury throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Penn's waist but Penn gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Marbury off to one side. Epic Penn is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Penn shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Marbury napping and manages to drive through into side control! Marbury is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Penn's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Penn trying to control the action but Marbury is working from the bottom. Penn missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Penn wants to pass the guard but Marbury is defending well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Marbury is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Penn is pressing down on Marbury's thigh, looking to free his foot. Marbury is holding on for now. Epic Penn overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Marbury looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Penn is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Epic Penn wasn't doing enough on the ground. Penn tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Marbury was well out of range. Poor timing from Penn.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Penn jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Penn feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Marbury is on top in guard.
