PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sergio Shields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tomoya Boehm (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tomoya Boehm will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boehm closes the distance but Shields moves to the side

and Shields counters by clinching up.
Shields throws a knee to the head but misses.
Boehm can't get the takedown.
Boehm prevents Shields from breaking the clinch.

Shields ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Shields no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Shields bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Boehm's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boehm is trying to maintain the position but Shields is very close to passing his half guard.

Shields is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Boehm is just riding it out for now. Shields eventually gives up the hold.
Boehm is looking for a sweep. Shields is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boehm is looking to escape.

Boehm tries to strike from the bottom but misses.
Boehm is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Boehm scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Shields manages to mount him!

Shields is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Boehm can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Boehm wants to hold on but Shields pushes him away.

Shields is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Boehm has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Shields will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

That was a close round but I would say that Sergio Shields will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Shields.

A short body shot lands from Boehm as the two fighters clinch.
Boehm is trying to break free.
Shields has Boehm pressed against the cage, preventing Boehm from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Shields is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Tomoya Boehm has got the better of the ground game so far.
Boehm wants to take a breather but Shields is having none of it.

Boehm is working for an americana but Shields has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Boehm was thinking about the submission.

Boehm throws a big elbow that misses.
Shields really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Boehm is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Shields is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Shields has escaped and now he's on top!

Shields decides to stand and escape the position.
Shields shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Boehm but Boehm pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Boehm misses with a head kick.
Boehm wants to clinch up but Shields keeps it at a distance.
Boehm tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Shields counters with a one-two to the body.

Shields stuffs the takedown attempt from Boehm. Boehm gets slowly back to his feet.

Boehm fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Shields to the ground. Boehm is now in Shields's guard.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Shields wants to sweep but no luck.
Boehm postures up in Shields's guard and throws a big left but Shields blocks it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tomoya Boehm showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Shields's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Boehm tries to score a power double leg takedown but Shields sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Boehm somewhat.
Boehm thows a body shot but no joy.
Boehm is looking to clinch but Shields is avoiding it.
Boehm clobbers Shields with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Shields closes the distance and clinches up with Boehm, looking for a takedown. Shields pushes Boehm against the cage but Boehm circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Shields shoots in for a takedown but Boehm shows good takedown defense.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Boehm.

Boehm is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Shields looks calm but he's in trouble here. Boehm gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Shields is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Boehm lets go of the hold and Shields can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Tomoya Boehm decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
