Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mitsuyo Maeda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Foul Play (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Play has chosen Simon Says-Pharaohe Monche as his entrance music. Foul Play told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
17 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mitsuyo Maeda! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
37 - 22 - 1, fighting out of New York, Foul Play! The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Bruno Lombardi and Dean Styles.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maeda shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Play but Play pushes him off and we're back to square one. Ouch! a nice leg kick from Play, right into the meat.
Play tries to score with a low kick but Maeda moves his leg out of the way. A jab from Play misses. A big right from Play misses. A head kick misses from Maeda. Play swings and misses with a hook to the body.
An inside leg kick lands from Maeda. A lazy left from Play finds it's target. Play swings away with a leg kick that misses. Maeda seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym. Play throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Play throws a low kick but Maeda avoids it. Maeda takes one on the button. The fighters circling - Play throws out the jab but it was never going to land. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Play thows a body shot but no joy. Play misses with a low kick.
Play tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him. We've been informed that Play has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. Play tries to score with a low kick but Maeda moves his leg out of the way. A looping hook to the body misses from Play. Maeda does a little dance to reset his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Maeda slips a jab from Play. Maeda ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Play delivers a nice body kick. Maeda lands with a cross. Play throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Maeda stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Maeda misses with a wild body shot. Play misses with the body kick and Maeda counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Maeda trying to control from half guard but Play is working away. Play moves into full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Maeda trying to control the position from guard on top but Play is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Maeda passes Play's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Maeda is looking to pass Play's guard but actually Play recovers to full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Maeda tries to free his leg and advance position but Play is retaining full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Maeda landing some decent shots from guard. Maeda working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Maeda's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Maeda throwing strikes from guard but Play blocks nicely. Play wants to sweep but no luck. Maeda trying to control but Play is working from the bottom. Maeda is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Play is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Maeda keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Play's head. Play keeping full guard, as Maeda tries to pass. Maeda postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Maeda drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Play dives on top into guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Maeda controlling the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Mitsuyo Maeda will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Maeda throws a leg kick which misses Play's front leg but catches the back leg as Play tries to avoid it. Maeda blocks a jab. A looping hook to the body misses from Play. Play throws an overhand right that lands on Maeda's shoulder, as Maeda tries to avoid the shot. Maeda chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Play can pounce on him.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Maeda forces Play back against the cage and clinches. Play misses with a punch on the inside.

That's one minute gone in the round. Nice body punch from Play - that landed with a thud.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Maeda working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Mitsuyo Maeda overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Play is trying to control the position but Maeda postures up. Maeda postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Play utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Play looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Maeda keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Play's head. Maeda chips away with some ground and pound. Maeda works a leg free and moves into half guard. Play tries to get to full guard but Maeda has control of the leg. Play makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Play. Maeda trying to move into half guard but instead Play has managed to sweep! Maeda pulls Play in to control the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Maeda is trying to keep Play in close.
Play must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Maeda keeping moving, preventing Play from controlling successfully. Maeda looking to sweep here. No luck so far. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Play cracks Maeda with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. This has been an exciting period of action! Play has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Maeda. Play misses the shot to the body. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Mitsuyo Maeda will probably get the nod. That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!
Maeda checks a leg kick nicely. Play walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Play fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Maeda on the side of the head. Play just misses with a punch to the body.

Maeda stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Play. Play lands a nice hook to Maeda's body. Maeda takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Play misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Maeda.

Play is looking to score with low kicks. A low kick from Play misses and Maeda decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Play's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Maeda sitting in guard, not really doing much. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Maeda's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Maeda pushing down on Play's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Maeda misses with a head shot. Play uses the momentum to regain guard. Play preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Maeda trying to control the position from guard on top but Play is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Maeda with a flurry of punches that miss. Maeda stands and throws Play's legs to the side, diving into side control. Maeda wants to control but Play is keeping him busy. Maeda advances to mount. Maeda scoring with strikes but Play is staying in there. Foul Play has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Maeda in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
BOOM! Maeda connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Play is bucking up trying to escape but Maeda cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Maeda in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Play is rocked! Play is squirming around, avoiding Maeda's attempts to control the action. Play is still in real trouble! Can Maeda finish him? The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Play is in a horrible position here. Maeda smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Play seems to have recovered his senses. Play gets back to half guard. Maeda is pressing down on Play's thigh, looking to free his foot. Play is holding on for now. Maeda is nestled in close to Play, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Maeda is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Play has managed to free his arm - good work.
And that's the end of the fight! Mitsuyo Maeda showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Maeda, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
