Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Roy Nelson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dave Edwards! The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Nard Betker and Wagner Zegers.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nelson lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Nelson scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
It looks like Dave Edwards has been cut. Edwards slips under a jab. Nelson misses the shot to the body. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Nelson tries to sprawl but Edwards drives through with a takedown into half guard. Edwards perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Nelson tries to roll over but Edwards keeps him under control. Edwards wants to free his trapped foot but Nelson is holding on for dear life with his legs. Nelson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Edwards tries to stand but his arm is trapped. Nelson is looking to improve his position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Edwards is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard. Edwards really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nelson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Edwards trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Edwards trying to stand up but can't free himself from Nelson's guard. Edwards won't allow Nelson to sweep him here. Edwards sitting in guard here, content to control.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Dave Edwards hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Edwards gets a double leg takedown into Nelson's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Edwards is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Nelson throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Edwards working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Nelson's head. Nelson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Edwards's guard. Edwards wants to stand up but Nelson is controlling him. Nelson trying to control the position from guard on top but Edwards is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Edwards looking for a sweep. Not yet Edwards, not yet. Edwards has his hands on Nelson's head, controlling the position.
We're going to have a standup here because Roy Nelson wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Nelson throws a leg kick that is checked and Edwards counters with a takedown into side control. Edwards wants to lay and pray for a moment but Nelson keeps working. Nelson takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! A lull in the action here. Edwards working the ground and pound. Edwards misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Nelson tries to improve position but can't. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Nelson is not content to let Edwards control the position. A lull in the action here as Edwards stalls from top position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Dave Edwards will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Dave Edwards's cut. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Nelson avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Edwards. Nelson wants to control but Edwards postures up. Edwards staying calm. Nelson tries to buck Edwards off but Edwards is having none of it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here as Edwards stalls from top position. Edwards wants to control but Nelson is keeping him busy. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Dave Edwards hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Nelson gets tackled into the ropes by Edwards. Edwards maintains the clinch. Edwards gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Nelson regains guard.
Edwards is looking to pass into half guard but Nelson pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Nelson is in guard. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Edwards looking for a sweep. Not yet Edwards, not yet. Dave Edwards has got the better of the ground game so far.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Edwards is still trying to improve position. Nelson scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Edwards wants to stand but Nelson is controlling the position. Nelson trying to control but Edwards is working from the bottom. Nelson is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Edwards is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Edwards keeping full guard, as Nelson tries to pass. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Nelson lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Edwards circles away quickly and effectively. Nelson scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Edwards on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Nelson misses with a few strikes there.
Nelson throws out a powerful jab. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Edwards slips under a jab from Nelson. Nelson tries to keep at a distance but Edwards has taken the fight into the clinch. Nelson tries to pull guard but Edwards holds him up against the ropes and eventually Nelson drops back down to his feet.

Nelson is looking for a kimura but Edwards is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Nelson to get the leverage. Edwards is refusing to be controlled, as Nelson sits in half guard. Nelson throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Edwards is not content to let Nelson control the position. Edwards looks like he's trying to stand up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Nelson misses with an uppercut
and Edwards counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Edwards. Nelson being controlled against the ropes. Nelson tries to pull guard but Edwards holds him up against the ropes and eventually Nelson drops back down to his feet.
Edwards works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Edwards wants to stand but Nelson has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nelson keeping moving, preventing Edwards from controlling successfully. Edwards has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Nelson is proving hard to escape from. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Nelson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Edwards controls the pace.
Dave Edwards has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Edwards throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Nelson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Edwards is in Nelson's guard.

Edwards trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Edwards trying to control the position from guard on top but Nelson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Dave Edwards was stalling too much, according to the referee. Edwards shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Nelson is trying to defend but Edwards finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Roy Nelson. I think Edwards has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

In favor of your winner, by unanimous decision... Dave Edwards! A less than humble Dave Edwards misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
