Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Reggie Coleman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mark Calaway! The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Marco Blurström and Tarja Halkonen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Coleman closes the distance and clinches up with Calaway, looking for a takedown. Coleman pushes Calaway against the cage but Calaway circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Calaway connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
It looks like Reggie Coleman has been cut. Coleman closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Calaway to the mat! Calaway manages to get full guard. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Coleman trying to control but Calaway is working from the bottom. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Coleman sitting in guard, not really doing much. Coleman pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Calaway is keeping the position for now. Calaway is trying to control the position but Coleman postures up. Coleman might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
That's one minute gone in the round. Coleman engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
We're going to have a standup here because Reggie Coleman wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. A leg kick checked by Calaway. A lazy left from Calaway finds it's target. No luck with that takedown attempt from Coleman. Calaway ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Coleman is breathing heavily. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Coleman misses with a combination
and Calaway rattles Coleman with a well-timed uppercut counter. - Coleman tries to back away and recover but his hands are down low and he gets tagged again, sending him stumbling down to the canvas. Calaway dives in after him and quickly finishes the job with a trio of brutal punches, leaving Coleman stiff and motionless on the mat!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Mark Calaway!
