Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Sanouk Fairtex (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Davi Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Sanouk Fairtex!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Davi Alves!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Eddie Farnsworth and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves falls off balance throwing a combination

and Fairtex counters with a single leg into guard. Alves didn't expect that.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Alves looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Alves wants to improve his position but instead Fairtex has moved into half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Alves had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Fairtex defends it easily.

Alves working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Fairtex doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Fairtex manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Alves wants to hit a switch here but Fairtex passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Alves there!
Fairtex manages to capitalize on a mistake by Alves to take his back!

Alves fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Fairtex sprawls well initially but Alves persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Fairtex has one foot on Alves's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Alves has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Fairtex is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Alves stuns Fairtex with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Alves misses with a hook. Fairtex ducked under it nicely.
Alves throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

and Fairtex counters with a shoot takedown. Alves fights it but they end up in guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Fairtex wants to stand but Alves has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Alves wants to sweep but no luck.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Fairtex needs to keep his hands up - Alves had a free shot at his head there.
Alves attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.

so Fairtex counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Fairtex has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Alves has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Fairtex can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Fairtex stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Alves lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Fairtex circles away quickly and effectively.
Alves moves in looking to clinch but Fairtex pushes him off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Davi Alves showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Alves bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Fairtex's head.
Nice takedown defense from Fairtex. No joy for Alves on that attempt.

Davi Alves seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Alves finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
A swing and a miss from Alves.
Alves tries to work over Fairtex's front leg with a kick but Fairtex checks it.

Alves takes the fight into the clinch.
Fairtex blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Alves breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

And that's the end of the fight!
Davi Alves comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Alves has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
