Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jason Shields! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brett Ing! The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ing scores with a jab to the head.
Shields dives in and scores a takedown into Ing's guard. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Shields postures up in Ing's guard and throws a big left but Ing blocks it. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Shields accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Shields throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Ing works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Shields throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Shields is looking to work some ground and pound but Ing has wrist control. Ing keeping full guard, as Shields tries to pass. Shields throwing strikes but missing. Shields trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Shields is working hard here to advance position. Shields trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shields tries to free his leg and advance position but Ing is retaining full guard. Ing wants to get back to his feet but Shields is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Shields stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ing swivels though and keeps the full guard. Shields passes easily into side control. Nice work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shields tries to score with some ground and pound. Ing controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. The ground and pound from Shields seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Shields lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Shields working the strikes but Ing uses the opportunity to regain half guard. Shields wants to pass the guard but Ing is defending well. Shields trying to advance position but Ing counters by regaining guard. Shields trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Shields works over Ing with some ground and pound from guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shields throws a strike but Ing rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Shields wants to stand and escape but Ing is having none of it. Ing wants to get up but he can't break Shields's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Ing wants to stand and escape but instead Shields has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Shields accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Shields sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Ing's guard. Shields seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shields moves nicely into side control. Ing is trying to get back to his feet. Shields is trying to move to mount but Ing reverses beautifully and ends up in Shields's guard. Ing wanted to stand there but Shields had control of the position. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Ing stops Shields from standing up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jason Shields dominated that round. That's time! Shields's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Jab, jab by Ing - just one landing. Shields fails in his attempt to clinch. Ing swinging wildly here.
Ing lands with an uppercut that bounces Shields off the cage and back into range. Shields shoots in looking for a takedown but Ing manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Shields's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Ing moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Shields is rocked! Shields walks into a picture perfect straight right hand from Ing! He's gone down face first to the canvas, unconscious before he even hit the floor! Ohhhh. My. Goodness! That boys and girls was a beautiful knockout! Give that man a biscuit!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Brett Ing! An out of breath Brett Ing thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career. Jason Shields was interviewed post fight and said 'I gotta go back and train hard and wait for my next fight offer'.
