Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bowman Rook (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ben Roofer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
15 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bowman Rook! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
16 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ben Roofer! The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Vladimir Khabensky and Ivan Kurochkin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rook scores with a nice head shot. Roofer scores with a leg kick.
Roofer uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Rook. Roofer throws a quick inside leg kick. A head kick misses from Roofer. Ouch! a nice leg kick from Rook, right into the meat.
Rook keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Rook doesn't manage to clinch there - Roofer circles away.
Rook bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Roofer throws a jab but it's blocked by Rook. Roofer fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Rook has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Ouch! a nice leg kick from Rook, right into the meat.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Roofer goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Roofer cracks Rook with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Rook closes the distance and clinches. Rook misses with the head strike.
Rook has Roofer pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Roofer manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Roofer managing to block the knees to the body from Rook.

Rook is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Roofer is just riding it out for now. Rook eventually gives up the hold. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Rook thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Roofer's head. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rook throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Rook seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Roofer does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Rook is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Roofer is just riding it out for now. Rook eventually gives up the hold. Rook is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Roofer defends it well. Rook is trying to control the action in half guard but Roofer is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Roofer wants to get back to his feet.
Rook not landing any meaningful shots this time. Roofer keeps control of the position for the meantime. Rook passes to full mount! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Roofer avoids a series of strikes thrown by Rook.

Rook throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Roofer works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Rook throwing strikes but missing. Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Rook moves into range and clinches up with Roofer. Rook throws a head punch that misses. Our sources have told us that Rook has been working on his knees in the buildup to the fight. Roofer's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Roofer moves out of range of the strikes.

Roofer felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Roofer gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rook trying to control but Roofer is having none of it. Rook lands with some strikes.

Rook is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Roofer has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Roofer! Rook working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Roofer doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Roofer manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Bowman Rook overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Roofer looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Bowman Rook. I think Rook has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
