The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith moves into the clinch.
Axelsson dodges an elbow strike from Smith.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Smith.
Smith blocking some punches.
Axelsson goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Smith pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Axelsson scores with a nice strike.
The fighters circling - Smith throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

It looks like Gilbert Smith has been cut.
Smith misses the shot to the body.
Axelsson lands with a right hand.
Axelsson bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

Smith shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Axelsson manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smith stands and throws Axelsson's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Axelsson tries to buck Smith off but Smith is having none of it.

Smith is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Axelsson defends it well.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Axelsson is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Smith pulls his head out easily.
Axelsson has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Smith is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Axelsson doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Smith.

Smith throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Axelsson has his hands clasped together but Smith breaks the hold and Axelsson is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Smith!
