PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jay Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Carvery (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Daniel Carvery has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Jay Jones's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jay Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Daniel Carvery!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Jonathan Paton and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carvery slips a jab and a cross from Jones.
Jones looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Carvery shoots in and drives through. Jones sprawls well.
Jones defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Carvery.

Carvery rushes Jones and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Carvery breaks the clinch.
Carvery shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Jones sprawls well. Jones wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Carvery gets slowly back to his feet.
Jay Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Daniel Carvery.
Jones takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Jones tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Carvery throws a head kick that half lands.


It looks like Jay Jones has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Carvery closes the distance and clinches up with Jones, looking for a takedown. Carvery pushes Jones against the cage but Jones circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Carvery moves into range and clinches up with Jones.

Carvery drags the fight down to the ground.

Carvery is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Jones defends well.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Carvery is on top in guard.

Carvery looking to pass the guard.
Carvery slips nicely into half guard.
Carvery slows the pace down in half guard.
Jones wants to get back to full guard but Carvery has passed into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Carvery controlling from side mount.
Carvery throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Carvery staying calm.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Daniel Carvery was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Carvery fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Jones, pushing him back against the cage.
Carvery manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Jones takes a knee right on the jaw!

Carvery jumps into guard, dragging Jones to the mat.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Carvery managing to control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones wants to control from the top but Carvery keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Daniel Carvery.
Carvery throws a series of strikes that have Jones backpedaling.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Carvery dives in and scores a takedown into Jones's guard.
Jones can't keep his opponent in guard - Carvery advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Carvery missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Carvery controlling the action here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Daniel Carvery dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Jay Jones's cut.
That's time! Back to the action!


Horrible takedown by Carvery or perhaps it was just good defense by Jones which made him look bad.

Carvery pushes Jones up against the cage in a clinch.
Jones looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Carvery pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Jones on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Carvery shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Jones defends it nicely.

Carvery throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Jones was covering up waiting for the punch and Carvery finishes the takedown easily into guard.


Jones is rocked!
Carvery postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Oh Jones is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Jones avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Carvery passes into half guard.
Jones might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Well, if Carvery is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Carvery's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Jones seems to have got his legs back now.
Carvery tries to pass to full mount but Jones defends it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Carvery escapes and gets back to his feet.

Carvery gets a takedown into half guard.
Carvery works his foot free and advances to mount.
Jones tries to reverse the position but Carvery maintains control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carvery in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Carvery looking to control and managing it successfully.

Carvery get's back to his feet.

Carvery has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Carvery's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Carvery duly obliges.
Carvery misses with a takedown attempt - Jones sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Carvery throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Carvery lands with a nice body punch.

Carvery closes the distance and clinches.

Carvery ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Carvery no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Carvery throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones is fighting to break Carvery's control of his arms but Carvery is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Carvery looking for a sweep. Not yet Carvery, not yet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Carvery avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Jones preventing the sweep.
Jones tries to free his leg and advance position but Carvery is retaining full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Daniel Carvery showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Jones stuffs the takedown.
Carvery changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jones tries to avoid it but Carvery manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jones to the ground. Jones escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Carvery gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Carvery ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Carvery no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Carvery is adopting a defensive guard.
Jones throws a big elbow that misses.
Carvery bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jones's guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Carvery stops Jones from standing up.
Jones can't keep his opponent in guard - Carvery advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Carvery looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Carvery thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Carvery thows a huge punch but Jones dodges it nicely.
Jones is trying to get back to full guard.
Jones wants to stand back up but Carvery manages to pass into side control.
Jones is letting Carvery control him for a moment.
Jones can't do much from the bottom here.

Carvery decides to stand up, so the ref orders Jones to his feet.
Carvery shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Jones defends it nicely.
Jay Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Daniel Carvery.
Carvery throws a combination. Jones tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Carvery tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jones sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Carvery somewhat.
Carvery closes this distance looking for a takedown but Jones circles away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jones fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Carvery avoids it really well and circles away.
Carvery tries for a takedown but Jones sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Carvery tries to clinch but Jones is having none of it.

Carvery has managed to clinch.
Jones is trying to drag Carvery to the mat but Carvery just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Carvery has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Jones clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Carvery misses with a punch to the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Carvery gets his hands free as Jones looks to control.

Jones is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Carvery gets his way!
Carvery keeps control of the position easily here as Jones tries to buck him off.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that's the end of the fight!
Daniel Carvery comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Carvery has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
