PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jin Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leonid Guerra Salsido (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Guerra Salsido has chosen Cuba Anthem as his entrance music. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 37 - 2, fighting out of Helsinki, Jin Kim!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Leonid Guerra Salsido!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Johanna Lukiainen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Guerra Salsido throws a jab when Kim was well out of range.
Kim shoots for a double leg takedown but Guerra Salsido sprawls well. He's pushed Kim's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Guerra Salsido takes the fight into the clinch.

Kim's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
A combination from Guerra Salsido does no damage.
Kim will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Kim drops down looking for an ankle pick but Guerra Salsido pulls his leg out and moves away.

Leonid Guerra Salsido is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Kim shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Guerra Salsido as he jumps to the side.
Kim throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Guerra Salsido's waist but Guerra Salsido gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kim off to one side.
Guerra Salsido looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Guerra Salsido gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
We've been hearing good reports from Kim's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Kim is fighting to break Guerra Salsido's control of his arms but Guerra Salsido is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Guerra Salsido has his foot on Kim's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kim works his way back into a safe position though.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Kim tries to close the distance and clinch but Guerra Salsido swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Guerra Salsido keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Kim fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Guerra Salsido lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.


It looks like Jin Kim has been cut.
Kim takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Kim bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Guerra Salsido is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Kim off and has taken his back!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kim tries to roll but Guerra Salsido sticks to his back.

Kim is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

Kim turns into Guerra Salsido and is now in his guard.

Kim stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Guerra Salsido swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Leonid Guerra Salsido wasn't active enough on the ground.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Leonid Guerra Salsido showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



The fight moves into the clinch position.
Kim changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Guerra Salsido fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Guerra Salsido throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Kim gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Kim doesn't manage to clinch there - Guerra Salsido circles away.
Kim fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Guerra Salsido avoids it really well and circles away.

Kim tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Guerra Salsido defends well and Kim ends up having to push Guerra Salsido into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jin Kim. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kim swings around for an armbar but Guerra Salsido sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Kim's guard.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Leonid Guerra Salsido hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Kim shoots in looking for a takedown but Guerra Salsido manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Kim's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Kim is looking for a kimura but Guerra Salsido is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kim to get the leverage.
Guerra Salsido is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Kim's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Kim's back!

Guerra Salsido is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Guerra Salsido thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.
Jin Kim overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
This has been an exciting period of action!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jin Kim.
I think Kim has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
