PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ike Turner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Risto Korpisuo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Korpisuo has chosen Eläkeläiset - Humpparaakki as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 9 - 1, fighting out of New York, Ike Turner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 25 - 1, fighting out of New York, Risto Korpisuo!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Alyssa Summers and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Korpisuo fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Turner wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Turner tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Korpisuo was well out of range. Poor timing from Turner.
Turner stuffs the takedown attempt from Korpisuo. Korpisuo gets slowly back to his feet.

Korpisuo fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Turner sprawls well initially but Korpisuo persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Korpisuo scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Korpisuo trying to advance position but Turner counters by regaining guard.
Korpisuo missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Korpisuo controls from within his opponent's guard.

Korpisuo stands and throws Turner's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Turner is not content to let Korpisuo control the position.
Turner prevents Korpisuo from moving into mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Turner is pushing Korpisuo's head away, looking to escape. Korpisuo manages to hold on to the position though.

Korpisuo misses with the ground and pound.
Korpisuo sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Turner is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Turner is not content to let Korpisuo control the position.
Turner managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Korpisuo.

Korpisuo creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Turner sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Korpisuo misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

Korpisuo throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Korpisuo working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Korpisuo tries to move to full mount but Turner actually manages to regain half guard.
Korpisuo is trying to control. Turner wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Korpisuo stalling away here and it's allowed Turner to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Korpisuo is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Korpisuo working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Korpisuo prevents Turner from getting back to his feet.
Korpisuo has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Turner keeping moving, preventing Korpisuo from controlling successfully.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Korpisuo trying to control the position from guard on top but Turner is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Korpisuo loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Risto Korpisuo dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Turner avoids a punch combination nicely.
Risto Korpisuo is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Turner looks to land a combination but Korpisuo avoids it well.
Korpisuo takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Korpisuo jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Turner throws an overhand right that lands on Korpisuo's shoulder, as Korpisuo tries to avoid the shot.
Turner walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Korpisuo checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Turner connects with a crisp jab.
Turner lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

Turner is looking to chop away at Korpisuo's legs.
Korpisuo shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Turner defends it nicely.
Some bone on bone action there as Korpisuo checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Turner scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Turner pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A head kick misses from Korpisuo.
That kick from Turner tenderised Korpisuo's leg. Korpisuo is trying to keep his angry face on.

Korpisuo wants to slow Turner down by chopping away at his legs.
Turner moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Turner slips a jab and a cross from Korpisuo.
Turner waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Korpisuo.
Turner goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Turner walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Korpisuo checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Turner swings widly with a right hand
and Korpisuo counters with a right hand to the body.
Korpisuo swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Turner makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Korpisuo blocks a leg kick.

Korpisuo closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Korpisuo content to control rather than advance.
Turner is looking to escape.
Korpisuo wants to pass the guard but Turner is defending well.
Korpisuo thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Turner's head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Turner is looking to escape.
Korpisuo missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Korpisuo looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Korpisuo working over Turner with some ground and pound. Turner looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Korpisuo is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Korpisuo passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Turner!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Risto Korpisuo will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Korpisuo moves away from the strike by Turner.
Turner leaves Korpisuo with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Turner fails to land with a series of punches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Turner bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Korpisuo swings for the body but Turner moves out of range.
Korpisuo shoots in for a double leg but Turner sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Korpisuo misses with a hook. Turner ducked under it nicely.
Turner darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Turner.
Turner scores with a nice strike.
Turner scores with a nice head shot.
Turner misses with a looping left.
Korpisuo is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Turner looks to score with a jab to the body but Korpisuo is just out of range.
Ike Turner has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Turner throws a poor cross that misses
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Ike Turner is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Turner throws a hook but Korpisuo blocks it.
Turner looks for the body kick but Korpisuo saw that one coming.
Korpisuo looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Turner is fending him off so far but Korpisuo persists. Nope, Turner circles away and we're back to standing.
Ike Turner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Risto Korpisuo.
Turner pivots, looking for a leg kick but Korpisuo is out of range and Turner settles back down.
Turner slips a jab and a cross from Korpisuo.
Ike Turner seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Turner moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

Korpisuo throws a nice looking combination but Turner bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Turner throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Turner misses with an uppercut. Korpisuo saw that one coming.
Korpisuo doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Turner counters with a left and a right that stings Korpisuo.
Turner misses with a leg kick

and Korpisuo counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Korpisuo is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Risto Korpisuo is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Risto Korpisuo has got the better of the ground game so far.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Turner throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Korpisuo controlling from the top position.
Korpisuo trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Turner manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ike Turner.
I think Korpisuo has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
