Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Galen Mcguire (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brian Herd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Galen Mcguire has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Galen Mcguire!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Brian Herd!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yukihiro Shimada and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Herd drives through with a takedown into guard.
Mcguire is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Mcguire keeping moving, preventing Herd from controlling successfully.
Herd stands and throws Mcguire's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Mcguire tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Herd wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Herd has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Herd is looking to take a break and control but Mcguire is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Herd lands a couple of digs.
Mcguire will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Herd looking to sit in guard and control but Mcguire gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Herd utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Mcguire won't allow Herd to get back to his feet.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Brian Herd wasn't active enough on the ground.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mcguire enables Herd to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mcguire manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Herd looking to sit in guard and control but Mcguire gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Mcguire is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Galen Mcguire wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Herd throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Mcguire tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Herd is in Mcguire's guard.
Herd wants to control from the top but Mcguire keeps moving.
Mcguire striking off his back but it's not causing Herd any problems.
Herd is looking to work some ground and pound but Mcguire has wrist control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Herd might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Mcguire haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Herd shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Mcguire is trying to defend but Herd finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Mcguire is looking to escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mcguire is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Herd trying to control the action but Mcguire is working from the bottom.
Herd looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Herd is stalling here. Mcguire is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Herd seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Mcguire has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Herd is pushing Mcguire's head away, looking to escape. Mcguire manages to hold on to the position though.

Mcguire stands up.
Brian Herd seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Herd drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Mcguire wants to stand but Herd is controlling the position.
Herd stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mcguire swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Mcguire lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Herd!
Brian Herd has got the better of the ground game so far.

Mcguire controlling his opponent.
Herd is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Mcguire tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Mcguire has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

We're going to have a standup here because Galen Mcguire wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Herd looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Mcguire will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Mcguire wants to stand up but Herd is controlling him.
Mcguire throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Herd passes Mcguire's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Mcguire is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Herd's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Herd's back!

That was a close second round but I would say that Galen Mcguire will probably get the nod.

Herd avoids the head kick by Mcguire.
Mcguire really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Herd closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Mcguire quickly recovers to half guard.
Mcguire wants to get back to full guard.
Herd seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Mcguire does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Herd slips a nice elbow through Mcguire's hands, connecting with Mcguire's forehead.

Herd shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Mcguire napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Mcguire is looking to regain half guard here but Herd keeps moving and retains side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mcguire makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Mcguire.
Herd postures up and lands a big shot to Mcguire's brow.

Brian Herd comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Herd has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
