Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Yra Panov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kamil Gadzhiev! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Ben Watson and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Panov shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Gadzhiev defends it nicely. Gadzhiev shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Panov defends it nicely. Panov shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Gadzhiev sprawls well. Gadzhiev wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Panov gets slowly back to his feet. Gadzhiev fails with a takedown attempt. Gadzhiev fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Panov to the ground. Gadzhiev is now in Panov's guard. Panov can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Gadzhiev controls the pace. Panov tries to land a sweep but no joy. Panov trying to control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Panov keeping moving, preventing Gadzhiev from controlling successfully. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Kamil Gadzhiev hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Panov feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Gadzhiev keeping moving, preventing Panov from controlling successfully. Gadzhiev is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Gadzhiev is trying to control the position from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Panov forces his way into half guard. Panov wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gadzhiev keeps working. Panov drops an elbow to the side of Gadzhiev's head. Panov trying to control the action but Gadzhiev is working from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Panov tries to pass the half guard into mount. Gadzhiev knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Gadzhiev is refusing to be controlled, as Panov sits in half guard.
We're going to have a standup here because Yra Panov wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Panov fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Yra Panov. That's going to take a lot out of him. Gadzhiev shoots in looking for a takedown. Panov tries to sprawl out of it but Gadzhiev keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Panov manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Panov closes the distance and clinches up with Gadzhiev, looking for a takedown. Panov pushes Gadzhiev against the cage but Gadzhiev circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Yra Panov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Panov fails to land the takedown. Panov is breathing heavily. Panov goes for a double leg but Gadzhiev avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Gadzhiev continues to drive forward.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gadzhiev drops down looking for an ankle pick but Panov pulls his leg out and moves away.
Gadzhiev tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Panov swivels and escapes. Nice takedown defense from Gadzhiev. No joy for Panov on that attempt. Gadzhiev shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Panov as he jumps to the side. Panov shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Gadzhiev shoots in looking for a takedown. Panov tries to sprawl out of it but Gadzhiev keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Panov manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Gadzhiev looking to score a takedown here. Panov is defending well but Gadzhiev drives through and ends up in Panov's guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Panov working a defensive guard here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Yra Panov will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Panov changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gadzhiev tries to avoid it but Panov manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gadzhiev to the ground. Gadzhiev escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Panov stuffs the takedown attempt from Gadzhiev. Gadzhiev gets slowly back to his feet. Gadzhiev closes the distance and clinches up with Panov, looking for a takedown. Gadzhiev pushes Panov against the cage but Panov circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Panov looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Gadzhiev is fending him off so far but Panov persists. Nope, Gadzhiev circles away and we're back to standing. Gadzhiev shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Gadzhiev performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Gadzhiev is breathing heavily. Panov looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Panov looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Panov looking for submissions off his back. Panov wants to control but Gadzhiev is keeping busy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Gadzhiev tries to pass the half guard into mount. Panov knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Yra Panov overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Gadzhiev is trying to control the action in half guard but Panov is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Panov is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Gadzhiev pulls his head out easily. Gadzhiev trying to control the pace.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gadzhiev is pressing down on Panov's thigh, looking to free his foot. Panov is holding on for now.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Kamil Gadzhiev. Panov looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Yra Panov. That's going to take a lot out of him. Gadzhiev darts in looking for a takedown but Panov gets double underhooks and turns Gadzhiev into the cage. Gadzhiev drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Panov turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Panov manages to end up in side control. Panov tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Gadzhiev is looking for a sweep. Panov taking a break here but Gadzhiev is having none of it and regains half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Kamil Gadzhiev will probably get the nod - 10:9. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!
Gadzhiev drives through with a takedown into guard. Panov controls Gadzhiev momentarily but Gadzhiev frees himself. Gadzhiev is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Panov is looking for a triangle but Gadzhiev pushes his legs off easily.
Gadzhiev stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Panov swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Gadzhiev avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily. Gadzhiev trying to control but Panov is working from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Panov is looking for a triangle here but Gadzhiev uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Gadzhiev is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Panov is not content to let Gadzhiev control the position.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Kamil Gadzhiev was stalling too much, according to the referee. Horrible takedown by Panov or perhaps it was just good defense by Gadzhiev which made him look bad.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Gadzhiev fails to land the takedown. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Gadzhiev is defended easily by Panov. Horrible takedown by Panov or perhaps it was just good defense by Gadzhiev which made him look bad. Panov dives in and grabs Gadzhiev's left leg, looking for a takedown. Gadzhiev pushes down on Panov's head and hops out. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Yra Panov. That's going to take a lot out of him. Gadzhiev fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. No luck for Gadzhiev with that takedown attempt. Gadzhiev shoots in for a double leg but Panov sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Panov shoots in looking for a takedown but Gadzhiev manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Panov's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
And that's the end of the fight! Kamil Gadzhiev comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Gadzhiev has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
