Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Oliver Wassef (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cathal Pendred (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pendred has chosen Going Out In Style as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Cathal Pendred! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Dillan Fox and Trevor Gratis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wassef moves away from the strike by Pendred. Pendred tries to bum rush Wassef with a series of wild strikes but Wassef uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Pendred stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Pendred wants it to stay on the feet. Wassef fails with a takedown attempt. Wassef fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Pendred sprawls well initially but Wassef persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Wassef stalling. Pendred tries to roll over but Wassef keeps him under control. Wassef controlling the action here.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Oliver Wassef wasn't doing enough on the ground. Pendred throws a left and a right that both miss
and Wassef counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Pendred! Wassef working the ground and pound. Wassef scores with punches from side control. Wassef tries to score with some ground and pound. Pendred controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Wassef scores with a couple of short elbows. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! The ground and pound from Wassef seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Wassef decides to take the fight back to the feet. Wassef slips a jab and a cross from Pendred.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Nice sprawl there from Pendred as Wassef shoots in. Wassef shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Wassef goes for a double leg but Pendred avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Pendred continues to drive forward. Wassef looking for a takedown. Pendred wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Pendred's face as he tries to break the clinch. Pendred throws a punch but it's blocked by Wassef. A right hook to the body lands for Pendred.
Wassef keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Pendred's efforts to push away. Pendred's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Oliver Wassef seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Sloppy strikes from Pendred. Those never looked like landing. Nice takedown defense from Pendred. No joy for Wassef on that attempt. Wassef tries to score a power double leg takedown but Pendred sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Wassef somewhat. Wassef is breathing heavily.

Wassef shoots in looking for a takedown but Pendred manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Wassef's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Pendred throws a series of punches but Wassef avoids them all with ease. Pendred jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.

and Wassef counters with a three punch combo that has Pendred backing up. Pendred nods at Wassef to acknowledge the strikes. Pendred throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Wassef. Wassef shoots in for a double leg but Pendred sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Pendred waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Wassef. Wassef tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Pendred defends well and Wassef ends up having to push Pendred into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. A nice left hand lands by Pendred.

Pendred moves into range and connects with a jab. Pendred throws a right and a left that Wassef avoids nicely. Oliver Wassef is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Wassef shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Pendred as he jumps to the side. Pendred swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Wassef decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Pendred's guard. Wassef has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Pendred working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Wassef. Wassef stops Pendred from standing up. Pendred not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
We've been hearing that Wassef has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish. Pendred is trying to hold Wassef in close to prevent damage but Wassef has managed to pass into half guard.

Wassef thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Pendred's head. Wassef thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Wassef trying to control the pace. Pendred tries to roll over but Wassef keeps him under control. Well, if Wassef is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Wassef happy to just control the position for now. Wassef looks up at the clock and then as Pendred takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Wassef smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Pendred takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Pendred is being controlled here. Pendred is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Wassef asserts his dominance and retains side control. Wassef content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though. Wassef's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Wassef wants to lay and pray for a moment but Pendred keeps working. Oliver Wassef is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Wassef controls the position.
And that's the end of the fight! Oliver Wassef showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Wassef, winning every round. Will the judges agree?
