Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Patrick Mc GInnley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jermain Johnson !
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Sosuke Kotani and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mc GInnley is looking to clinch but Johnson is avoiding it.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Johnson has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

We've been hearing reports that Mc GInnley has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Mc GInnley slaps away a takedown attempt from Johnson , before circling back to the center of the mat.
Johnson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mc GInnley's waist but Mc GInnley gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Johnson off to one side.

Johnson shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Mc GInnley napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Mc GInnley wants to get back to his feet.
Johnson lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
What's Mc GInnley going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.
Johnson tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Mc GInnley wants to control but Johnson postures up.
Johnson tries to score with some ground and pound. Mc GInnley controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Mc GInnley is looking to reverse the position.
Mc GInnley is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Johnson 's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Johnson throws a strike but Mc GInnley avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Mc GInnley pulls Johnson in close to his closed guard and prevents Johnson from doing any damage or advancing position.
Mc GInnley wants to get back to his feet but Johnson is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Johnson throws an elbow that misses. Mc GInnley uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Johnson 's guard. Nice move by Mc GInnley!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mc GInnley trying to control the position from guard on top but Johnson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

We're going to have a standup here because Patrick Mc GInnley wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Johnson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Mc GInnley lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Mc GInnley drives through and clinches with Johnson against the cage.
Mc GInnley tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Johnson smiles and moves away.
Johnson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mc GInnley but Mc GInnley pushes him off and we're back to square one.

You can see the frustration on Mc GInnley's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mc GInnley tries to improve position but can't.
Sloppy strikes there by Johnson .
This has been an exciting period of action!
Johnson working the head and body with strikes.
Johnson throws a strike aimed at the side of Mc GInnley's head but Mc GInnley avoids it well.
Johnson in side control, throwing shots but Mc GInnley defends.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Johnson creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Nice uppercut lands for Mc GInnley. That snapped Johnson 's head back.
Mc GInnley lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.


It looks like Jermain Johnson has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Johnson gets hit by the mother of all head kicks and drops to the canvas in a crumpled heap! Woooow, the Internet is going to be talking about this one for weeks!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:31 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Patrick Mc GInnley!
In his post fight interview, Patrick Mc GInnley started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
The defeated Jermain Johnson had this to say: 'Maybe it's time to retire, I can't keep getting knocked out like this'.
