PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Boyce Salazar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnson has chosen It's on again as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Boyce Salazar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Daniel Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Josh West and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson throws a chopping leg kick but Salazar manages to avoid taking any serious damage.

Johnson moves into the clinch.

Johnson jumps guard and drags Salazar to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Johnson is looking for a triangle but Salazar pushes his legs off easily.
Salazar throws a big right hand that misses.

Salazar stands up and waves to Johnson to follow him.

Johnson gets the takedown into side control.

It looks like Boyce Salazar has been cut.
Salazar throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Johnson forces Salazar back against the cage and clinches.

Johnson manages to break the clinch.

Salazar wants to control from the top but Johnson keeps moving.
Salazar is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Johnson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Salazar is one step ahead there.

We're going to have a standup here because Boyce Salazar wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Johnson is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Salazar to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.

Johnson is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Salazar is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Salazar has escaped and now he's on top!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Salazar is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Daniel Johnson dominated that round.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Salazar closes this distance looking for a takedown but Johnson circles away.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Johnson in particular looking to stall.
Johnson wants to pass the guard but Salazar is defending well.
Johnson is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Salazar is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Johnson pulls his head out easily.

Salazar has hold of Johnson's hands but Johnson slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Johnson is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Salazar has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Salazar tries to lock up and control but Johnson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
A big strike lands for Johnson! That's really hurt Salazar and he's turned his back - Johnson keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Johnson jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:47 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Daniel Johnson!
