Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Martin Riggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Lord (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Martin Riggs has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Martin Riggs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jay Lord!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Daniel Bishop and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Riggs shoots for a takedown but Lord saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Riggs misses with a two punch combination.
Riggs fails with the takedown.
Riggs shoots in looking for a takedown. Lord tries to sprawl out of it but Riggs keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Lord manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Martin Riggs. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lord misses with a body kick.
Lord lands with a kick to the ribs.
Riggs throws a hook but Lord blocks it.
Riggs changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lord tries to avoid it but Riggs manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lord to the ground. Lord escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Lord circles away from the clinch attempt.
Lord stuffs the takedown attempt from Riggs. Riggs gets slowly back to his feet.
Martin Riggs seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lord fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Lord shoots in but no luck this time.

Riggs is looking to clinch but Lord is avoiding it.
A head kick misses from Lord.

Lord scores with a takedown into Riggs's guard.
Riggs can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Lord controls the pace.
Riggs preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Lord is standing up over Riggs. Riggs looks to escape but Lord dives into side control.
Riggs is looking to reverse the position.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Riggs stops Lord from passing to mount.
You can see the frustration on Riggs's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Lord decides to stand back up. Lord steps back and let's Riggs get back to his feet.
Riggs is breathing heavily.
Riggs showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Lord.

and Lord counters with a nice body kick.

Lord closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Riggs trying to stall but Lord improves his position.
Riggs really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Riggs pushes off an throws an elbow but Lord leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

Lord pulls guard successfully.
Lord lands some strikes from the bottom.
Lord controlling the position.
Lord trying to control the position.
Lord is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Lord has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Riggs gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Riggs moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Riggs throws a head kick that misses

and Lord decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Riggs's guard.
Lord wants to control from the top but Riggs keeps moving.
Lord is looking to work some ground and pound but Riggs has wrist control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jay Lord dominated that round.

Riggs throws a head kick that misses.

Lord tries to keep at a distance but Riggs has taken the fight into the clinch.
Lord works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Lord fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Lord dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Riggs on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Riggs pulls guard successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lord trying to control but Riggs is working from the bottom.
Riggs wants to sweep but no luck.

Lord showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

Lord controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Lord must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Lord is breathing heavily.

Riggs is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Lord is stalling in the full guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Lord wants to control from the top but Riggs keeps moving.
Riggs has Lord pulled in close to control his posture.
Riggs wants to control but Lord passes easily into half guard.
Lord stalling away here and it's allowed Riggs to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Despite being in the dominant position, Jay Lord just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Lord shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Riggs wants to get back to his feet but Lord is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Riggs isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Lord stacks Riggs on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Lord!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lord decides to stand back up.

Riggs fails with the takedown

and Lord counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Lord looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Lord passes to side control.
Riggs is trying to control Lord's posture but Lord avoids it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jay Lord showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Riggs is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Lord is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Lord has escaped and now he's on top!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Lord with a flurry of punches that miss.
Lord is looking to stand up but Riggs won't let him.
Lord looking to sit in guard and control but Riggs gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lord looking to control but Riggs passes into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Riggs not doing much here.
Lord trying to hold on to Riggs's head to control him but Riggs postures up.
Lord is refusing to be controlled, as Riggs sits in half guard.
Riggs is looking to advance position but Lord won't allow it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Riggs wants to get back to his feet.
Lord wants to improve his position but Riggs is controlling well.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Riggs has Lord up against the cage in a clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Riggs tries to score a body lock takedown but Lord shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Martin Riggs has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Jay Lord comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Lord has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
