Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, BJ Penncil! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Timo Kahuna! The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Bart Greer and Santiago Holmes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Penncil fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kahuna avoids it really well and circles away. Penncil uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Kahuna. Horrible takedown by Penncil or perhaps it was just good defense by Kahuna which made him look bad. Penncil shoots and misses and Kahuna counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for BJ Penncil. That's going to take a lot out of him. Kahuna uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Penncil has time to react. Kahuna closes the distance and lands a one-two. No luck with that takedown attempt from Penncil. Penncil tries for a takedown but Kahuna circles away easily and Kahuna counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Penncil shoots in looking for a takedown but Kahuna manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Penncil's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Kahuna keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Penncil shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kahuna defends it nicely. Kahuna misses with a hook. Penncil ducked under it nicely. He's got hold of a leg but Kahuna swivels and escapes. Kahuna has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. Kahuna lands with a right hand. Penncil fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kahuna avoids it really well and circles away. Kahuna might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable. Penncil misses with a takedown attempt and Kahuna counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Kahuna escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Penncil takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Penncil misses with a takedown and Kahuna counters with a nice uppercut. This entire fight has taken place on the feet so far and you wonder whether Penncil might be better served trying to take this one to the ground because he's losing the standup battle so far. Penncil trying to control the position but Kahuna is working away. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Penncil works to advance to full mount. Kahuna defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Kahuna is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position. Penncil can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Kahuna is looking to escape. Penncil quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Penncil but it's paid off an Kahuna is forced to tap! Nice work by Penncil.
