Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gold Cobra! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Thornton! The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Jonathan Paton and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cobra shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Thornton napping and manages to drive through into side control! Thornton is looking to reverse the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cobra tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Cobra has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Cobra is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Thornton has escaped the position, nice work there. Thornton sneaks back into half guard. Thornton wants to get back to full guard. Thornton gets back to full guard.
Thornton keeping full guard, as Cobra tries to pass. Thornton looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cobra looking to pass the guard. Thornton looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Cobra trying to control but Thornton is working from the bottom. Cobra looking to pass the guard. Thornton looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cobra is one step ahead there. Cobra pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Thornton is keeping the position for now. Thornton wants to improve his position but instead Cobra has moved into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cobra is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Cobra is looking to advance position but Thornton won't allow it. Thornton actively working from the bottom here. Cobra is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Thornton is looking for a sweep. Cobra is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Thornton moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Cobra advances position into side control!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cobra has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Thornton is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Cobra yanks on the arm and Thornton is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Cobra.
