Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, David Paul! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cameron Murray! The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Joseph Jones and Anthony Taglia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Some bone on bone action there as Murray checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Murray ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Paul moves away. Paul bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Murray tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Paul wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Paul working away. Paul thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Paul working away. Murray is looking for a sweep. Murray really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Paul. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Paul working away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Paul is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Murray knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Murray struggling a bit here. Paul has knee on belly momentarily but Murray bucks him off and regains half guard. Murray is looking for a sweep. Paul is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Murray thows a left - swing and a miss! Paul misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Murray.
Murray clobbers Paul with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Murray misses with a hook. Murray stuffs the takedown attempt from Paul. Paul gets slowly back to his feet. Murray misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Paul.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nice body punch from Murray. Murray jabs Paul right on the nose. Paul blinks but takes it well. Paul is breathing heavily. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Murray throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Paul sees it coming and avoids it easily. Murray drops Paul with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Paul looks back up at him and smiles so Murray waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Paul is rocked! Paul switches off momentarily and Murray cracks him with a monster right hand! Paul topples backwards and makes a semi conscious attempt to cover up, as Murray dives in to land one more shot, before the referee has time to call the fight. What a finish by Murray!
