The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thornton shoots for a double leg takedown but Clericy sprawls well. He's pushed Thornton's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Clericy tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Thornton was well out of range. Poor timing from Clericy.

Thornton tries to score a power double leg takedown but Clericy sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Thornton somewhat.

Tom Clericy is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Thornton goes for a double leg but Clericy avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Clericy continues to drive forward.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Thornton is looking to cinch up a triangle. Clericy throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Thornton's body to avoid the submission. Thornton has instead reached around Clericy's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Thornton arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
