PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Erin Padilla (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fernando Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Erin Padilla!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Fernando Jr!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Jonathan Paton and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Padilla.
Erin Padilla seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Padilla throws a sloppy head kick and Jr moves out of range easily.

Padilla closes the distance and clinches.
Padilla is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Padilla has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Jr avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Padilla jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Jr walks away with a smile on his face. Padilla gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Padilla has taken the fight to the clinch.

Jr tightens his grip and picks Padilla up, before dumping him to the ground. Padilla manages to land in guard.
Jr showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Let's hope that Jr has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Padilla can't keep his opponent in guard - Jr advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Padilla is trying to maintain the position but Jr is very close to passing his half guard.
Jr stops Padilla from getting back to his feet.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Jr working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Padilla wants to get back to his feet.
Jr sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Jr trying to pass the guard but Padilla defending well.
Padilla trying to hold on to Jr's head to control him but Jr postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Erin Padilla.

Jr gets a double leg takedown into Padilla's guard.
Jr engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Padilla has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Padilla could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Jr looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Padilla!

You can see the frustration on Padilla's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Jr closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Padilla's guard.
Padilla seems keen to control Jr's posture.

Padilla had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Jr defends it easily.
Jr looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Padilla is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Padilla has Jr pulled in close to control his posture.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Jr stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Padilla swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Erin Padilla just wasn't active enough.
Padilla looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Padilla throws a head kick but Jr moves out of range.

Padilla looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Jr has picked Padilla up and slammed him! Padilla can't keep hold of the triangle and Jr manages to pass to side control!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Padilla is trying to control Jr's posture but Jr avoids it.

Jr is keen to just control but Padilla is a slippery customer.
Jr is breathing heavily.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Fernando Jr hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Fernando Jr showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Jr in particular looking to stall.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Jr wants to control but Padilla is keeping him busy.

Jr has Padilla pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Jr pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Padilla tumbling to the mat - Jr dives into Padilla's guard.
Jr takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Padilla looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jr is one step ahead there.

Padilla controls Jr momentarily but Jr frees himself.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Fernando Jr was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Padilla tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Padilla misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Jr closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Padilla to the mat! Padilla manages to get full guard.

Padilla is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Jr is stalling in the full guard.

Padilla has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Jr is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Padilla.

Fernando Jr comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Jr winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
