Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dirt McGirk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fred Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McGirk comes to the cage accompanied by This Is Who I Am . Jones comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Face in the Sand kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
18 - 23 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dirt McGirk! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
29 - 16 - 2, fighting out of Hilo, Fred Jones! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McGirk throws a wild combination but nothing lands. McGirk scores with a jab.
Jones is rocked! Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Jones.
Jones is still on wobbly legs! Can McGirk finish him? McGirk ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Jones moves away. Some wild striking there from McGirk.
McGirk fails to land with a series of punches.
A combination from McGirk does no damage. McGirk looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. McGirk scores with a punch to the head. McGirk misses with the combination.
Jones tries for a takedown but McGirk sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Jones has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Jones misses with a two punch combination.

Jones moves in looking to clinch but McGirk pushes him off. McGirk misses with a looping left. Jones shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. McGirk manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Jones seems to have recovered his senses. Jones working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. McGirk is not content to let Jones control the position. McGirk is looking to escape. Jones throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing McGirk to regain full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jones slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Jones throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. McGirk is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

McGirk swivels though and keeps the full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. McGirk throws a right and a left that both miss. Jones shoots in and bounces McGirk off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Jones pushes down on McGirk's leg and manages to get into half guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Jones wants to lay and pray for a moment but McGirk keeps working. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

He's got hold of a leg but McGirk swivels and escapes. Jones is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Jones avoids a punch combination nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round. McGirk doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. McGirk throws a right hand that Jones ducks under and follows up with a left that Jones also avoids with ease. McGirk throws a jab when Jones was well out of range. McGirk throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Jones. McGirk swats away the attempt to clinch by Jones. McGirk throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Jones shoots in for a takedown but McGirk shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. McGirk looks to land a combination but Jones avoids it well. Jones has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Jones is trying to work for a kimura but McGirk is defending well.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Jones fails with the takedown. McGirk wants to clinch up but Jones keeps it at a distance. The fight stays on the outside here - Jones looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Jones throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around McGirk's waist but McGirk gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jones off to one side. McGirk lands a left and a right that send Jones crashing to the mat, dazed. McGirk thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Jones goes for a double leg but McGirk avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as McGirk continues to drive forward. Jones jumps into guard, dragging McGirk to the mat.
McGirk wanted to stand there but Jones had control of the position. McGirk trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful. Jones seems keen to control McGirk's posture. Dirt McGirk has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Let's hope that Jones has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. McGirk has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Jones wants to sweep here but McGirk controlling him for the moment. Jones controls McGirk momentarily but McGirk frees himself.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Fred Jones hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. McGirk throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

McGirk looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Jones throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and McGirk works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
